From the Guardian: It is interesting now to look back on the way Eddie Howe approached his first match against Southampton as Bournemouth’s manager. It came in the League Cup in August 2010, and was the clubs’ first encounter in 23 years and the first of three in a season when both were in League One. “You can’t compare us to Southampton,” he said. “Southampton are a massive club. It’s good to see they’ve got over their financial problems, because I think it’s good for us if Southampton are doing well. They have played us in pre-season and loaned us players, so we’ve always had a good relationship with them and I think that’s important.” Back then the Saints did the treble over them), but now Howe’s side are 10 places and 11 points ahead of them in the Premier League, have won five of their eight games to Southampton’s lonely one, and it looks like Southampton will need luck or charity to emerge from this meeting with anything but defeat.
I love your optimism. Like it or not this will be a tough game for us. There is a lot of pride at stake for both clubs but do our players have the courage, determination, motivation, desire, and a dozen more such attributes to win it?
Yeah if we're not up for it we'll get tonked, but I have hopes that we will be and that they'll bottle it. International break could have done us some favours? #nojinx
From the Hedge end journal..........unlikely win for Saints............but they'll go down fighting.........
Early morning coffee and optimism for me. I'm sure it'll dissipate as the day goes on, but a good start nonetheless.
Early morning coffee and no optimism here. In fact I am looking for stuff to do around the house until 3pm. May leave the front garden so I can do that during the second half when I turn off my stream.
That's called displacement activity....when you do something to take your mind off what is really bothering you. My house never looks tidier than when Saints are playing.
I`ve just run the Highbury Fields parkrun in London, and there was a blokerunning in a Cherries shirt. Its an omen ! - I gave him a damned good thrashing, so Saints will do likewise this afternoon. Maybe.
Anyone who is still worried should remember this one thing: Bournemouth are the only, yes the only, team to come to St Marys and lose in 2018...
I actually wish you hadn’t said that. Hope you had something crossed when you wrote. My head thinks Howe’s gonna do us but the blind optimism on here makes me stupidly think we might play well & deservedly get something from the game. #deluded!
Just making the observation that more times than not, they tend to bottle it against us Small club syndrome
Infact, I'll go one further and say not only will we beat them today, but we'll be above them by Christmas
