https://www.change.org/p/bank-of-en...table-unicorn-for-the-face-of-the-new-50-note Over 2,000 people (and counting) have signed a campaign in support of former Hull City star Harry Maguire – for a bizarre reason. Following the Bank of England’s announcement that the £50 note is to get a redesign, the public have been putting forward their suggestions of who should be the face of the cash. Currently, English manufacturer Matthew Boulton and the Scottish engineer James Watt, founders of the Boulton and Watt engineering and manufacturing firm, are on the note. But a Change.org campaign has been set up to put Leicester defender Maguire – riding an inflatable unicorn no less – on the note, which would be utterly bonkers and hilarious at the same time. Set up by Jonny Sharples, he wrote: “The Bank of England are redesigning the £50 following the successful redesign of the £5, £10, and £20 notes. please log in to view this image How Harry Maguire could look as the face of the new £50 note... (Image: Change.org) "None of these notes so far have featured a World Cup semi-finalist floating on a mythical creature, and in the interests of football's attempts to come home, who would be more appropriate to feature than Harry Maguire riding an inflatable unicorn?” At the weekend, the Bank of England confirmed £50 notes will remain after government plans to scrap them alongside 1p and 2p coins. A review in March suggested scrapping the £50 note to clampdown on criminals using them for fraudulent activity. But Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, Robert Jenrick, confirmed the note is not going anywhere as he appreciated it is part of the "UK's identity."
Well, whilst I was north of the border the Scots put Jack Nicklaus (An American) on their £5 note, so an English sportsman on and English note is not such a crazy idea. please log in to view this image
I think it would be nice to have the fab four on a note. Then again, how about a poppy to commemorate our real heroes? Who or what would you like to see on our notes?
Can't say it's something I've noticed on my passport. To be fair I only use the thing 6 times a year.
Is that the Hull City Fab Four who went though all the divisions? Ash, Myhill, Dawson and France? (Obviously over the years this will change and i will be convinced Whitehurst will have been in the esteemed gang
There are some wild suggestions and its virtually impossible to pick out a single war hero so what about a symbolic one, Harry Patch, the last Tommy, or the Unknown Warrior with poppies.
Just read that you've got to be either the Queen or dead to appear on a banknote so I don't imagine Harry'll be too disappointed not to win this one...
