Where's the sense in this argument to begin with? Carroll's a better footballer probably, and most likely will become a very good player. He's also someone else's player now.

We've got Besty, and in my view he's best of the rest. He's got a few goals, he's actually gotten a few whenever he's played, so why not just get behind the lad and hope he can continue scoring for us?

Nolan scored a lot of goals feeding off Carroll. Carroll scored goals from Barton and Enrique deliveries. They're all gone now. We need to find goals elsewhere. So far we've had a great start, while it all looks a bit uncertain surrounding the team and it's potential, you can't argue with 'so far so good'. At the end of the day it doesn't matter who is the better player, so far Best has scored 2, Carroll 1 league goal. Judge them by goals at the end of the season, not by some bizarre stats drawn from the net. How sure are you they're accurate anyway?

Cant really compare them in terms of style of play, Carroll is a big target man who is more likely to get more assists with his flick ons and the way he was utilized in set pieces, Besty is more of an 'in the box' striker, he's much better suited to causing problems in the box much like vanistolroy (spelling)

Best is ****..he scored twice in his last match! And you can see clearly right there, he has a better conversion rate than Carroll! Best is the one scoring, Carroll is the one who struggled to get back from an injury and is festering at Liverpool losing all respect. Who's the better player? Best.

If only football was this simple eh? Unfortunately its not. To compare Andy Carroll to Leon Bets in terms of importance based on some complied goal stats is nothing short of pointless. As I said yesterday and many times before, stats are footballers to look back on with fondness, and Fat Sam to put together his latest scientifically proven defensive masterclass.

I can compare them simply by watching them play, much easier and a much more accurate assessment of their abilities. The difference between the two is massive. Like grand canyon massive. This reads as some kind of desperate excuse the board would put out for not bothering to get a new striker in the last 7 months. 1 out of 5

Newcastle fans trying to convince themselves it was a good thing that they sold Andy Carroll. Well the smirk will be put on the other side of your face when he terrorises your centre-backs.

    Exactly.

Of course Carroll is much better. However, my point is, so far, Best has offered almost as much as Carroll did in his time he was with us. Yet somehow Best is considered absolute ****e compared to Carroll.

In reality, if best keeps up even a similar sort of goalscoring record, he'll actually be one of the best strikers outside of the top 6 in-terms of results.

And I cannot fathom these ****ing dipshits who are saying these statistics are 'pointless', like Warm Pouch.

Who cares how 'well' they play? Strikers are there to do ONE thing: score goals. Best does that, and does it better than most lately. I put the statistics there so mongs can understand that they cannot be argued against. He scores goals, and for those who say he only scores a hat trick there, or a brace there, his goals have actually contributed a lot of points. The facts are there as CLEAR as they can be.

And then of course there's the even stupider people who think this thread is claiming that Best is better than Carroll, despite me saying over and over again that it's just to clearly show that for Best being 'so ****' in the eyes of many, when it comes to what counts, he does it well.

Piss off and don't read it then.

Found a nice way of comparing them - http://www.premierleague.com/page/Head2Head/0,,12306~30174~37714,00.html?s1=2010&t1=405&s2=2010&t2=402

Can't find a way to limit the graphs and other pretty pictures to just a specified timeframe though, and still no assists.

I'll bring some of the more interesting stats into this post.

    Best: 11 apps, +2 subs, 6 goals
    Amy: 19 apps, +1 sub, 11 goals

    NUFC w/ Best: 3 wins, 6 draws, 2 losses, 15 for, 9 against, 15 pts, 1.36 p/g
    NUFC w/ Amy: 6 wins, 4 draws, 9 losses, 27 for, 29 against, 22 pts, 1.52 p/g

Following is over more than just Newcastle 2010/11:

    Best: 0.28 goals/shot, 48% shots on target
    Amy: 0.15 goals/shot, 52% shots on target

    Best: 0 yellows, 15 fouls
    Amy: 8 yellows, 70 fouls

    That is interesting!

Just adds more weight to it really. Yes Carroll is ultimately a better player, but the stats don't lie: Best is simply nowhere near as bad as some make out. In fact, if he keeps up this run of form, he might be one of the best strikers we've had in a long time.

Carroll and Best are 2 different types of strikers. To compare them on all round play would be stupid. Best is more of a Darren Bent type player, poacher, stays around the goal a lot and feeds off the midfield. Carroll, however, was found all over the place, holding up play and creating chances for others (Hence Nolan's goal return when we had Carroll) like a typical Centre Forward. Best is underrated, yes, his goal return is fairly similar to that of Carroll's, but to try and compare their overall play is just stupid.

Misunderstanding here I think. Chappaz is using stats to compare striker contribution to NUFC not to compare one striker to the next as loads of people seem to be thinking.

    Is this a serious thread?

Comparing Leon Best to Andy Carroll is pretty lame I have to say.

It's like comparing bargain marg with dairy churned butter - they both essentially do the same job but honestly there is no comparison in quality.

Leon Best is a hardworking front-man who can do a job. Andy Carroll is an international class striker who is the future of the England set-up.

I don't dislike Best, I just think he is being hugely over-rated by some people on here.
