I'm a bit more sceptical about these offers. No-one knows the details and the media are struggling to come up with the names of the people involved. I've still seen no evidence of this Saudi money yet we are being told ( or some of us are) that a Saudi Prince is involved. I think someone is taking the proverbial.
I am very dubious of the crowdfunding bid, not sure i like the sound of it at all. Duffens bid as you say we have no idea who his mystery backer is and why they would want to buy us. As for the the third bidder no idea.... rumors somebody is flying in from America? i just cant see why anybody would pay £40M+ for us ..... the only good thing is that all this noise about bids etc.... means that we are possibly edging towards being bought.... It cannot be any worse than it is can it?
I think the "why would they be interested?" angle is a bit self-deprecating. We have a decent balance sheet, so a bit of investment to get us back in the top flight would yield a decent amount of money for somebody. It also depends on how long term the owners want to be here and what their goals are. It isn't safe to assume that everybody is in it for the long haul.
Do we have a decent balance sheet? Very few assets left and haemorrhaging money each week? I wonder what the break even attendance they would need to get to? Genuine question, you understand business finance, I don't.
Our finances are actually pretty good. We aren't haemorrhaging money like other clubs are; if a prospective buyer came in and saw it, they'd be pleased. Our team isn't worth much, but that's not going to dictate much in the way of value. Bowen, Grosicki and Irvine are probably the three most profitable in terms of value, but it's not likely they'd need to be sold to generate income. We haven't got much in the way of funds coming in, our last parachute payment will almost certainly go to Allamhouse as part of any deal. So it's more a question of what the new owners want for the club. Do they want to fund a PL push, or will it be a sort of Brentford/Ipswich model which sees us stable and bobbing around the Championship? That's going to be interesting.
A bit ? 24th in the league ? Odds on being in League 1 next season ? It would be a reckless bet to take a punt with a major outlay upfront ( > 20 million quid) - who could we buy (player-wise/manager-wise) to save us this season and push us out of the championship next season ? Pipe dream. Get the club for free maybe a decent punt ! It would still be a 5 year project.
We've banked a lot of money, our wage bill has been slashed to a relatively low level, low transfer fees that have almost certainly been paid in lump sums to avoid future fees hanging over our heads.
