That's the fee they quoted Dortmund. IIRC the fee we were quoted was at least four times that, probably closer to six - and the ****ehousery doesn't stop there, either, as Sancho still had a year to go on his scholarship at The Sheikh Mansour Team, meaning they had far more say in who he did or did not sign for than if Sancho was two years older.
Rabiot Watch The Mirror's reporting that we're preparing a January bid, looking to take advantage of him being in the last six months of his contract once people start belting out Auld Lang Syne, which would mean it only took five transfer windows before we signed him...
City have inserted a buy back clause with Sancho...they knew how good he could be. Doubt we would have agreed to that.
Reports in Greece suggest we had scouts watching two AEK Athens players last night, goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas and defensive midfielder Konstantinos Galanopoulos (yes, I did use copy/paste for those) Just a thought: isn't is possible our scouts were there to watch the Benfica players who were on the pitch at the time? We've been linked with Alex Grimaldo for a while now, after all...
Watching Chelski vs Southampton and can't help but think of the players in their team who were heavily linked with us but chose them: Hazard; Willian; Barkley; Morata and Cahill. Why did they all choose them ( and left us with Llorente )? *Transfer fee? *Wages? *Past success of the team? *DL negotiating 'skills' What could have been.........
Only Hazard of those is a significant miss, fairly sure that with him, Willian and Cahill the wages on offer over there would have been a lot more than we were offering Didn't Morata admit that he wasn't up to the challenge of trying to play ahead of Kane and Barkley was probably fee related as we wanted him on a free
I don't think the players chose them, their agents and/or bank managers did - especially in the cases of Willian, Cahill and Barkley.
Hazard played wage slut (or his agent did) in 2012, talking about how he would like to come to the PL and play for the likes of Citeh/Chelsky/Spurs etc. When the CL final effects came to pass, we found out he was a merc. And with his two seasons of downed tools at Chelsky, IMHO we dodged a bullet just as was the case with Suarez (we already had Adebayor on that front) .
You think we missed a bullet with Suarez? I don't care if he bites chunks out of Chelsea players...he would have elevated our team a few notches without a doubt. Levy though haggled over a cool million, well done him.
Yes. He had far too much baggage with him. And if he had been a Spurs player rather than a Poool darling, no doubt one and all would have imposed far greater match ban durations than what he actually got for his antics.
How quickly (and conveniently...) everyone forgets Harry Redknapp saying that he didn't think Suarez could play up front on his own, seeing him as more like Van Der Vaart - and as we had VDV we didn't need Suarez
Is he good enough to be 3rd choice? If so, and if Vorm moves on, that would open up space for a new signing, given that our small number of HG players seems to be the predominant constraint on our transfer activity in the last couple of windows
He seems to be well-regarded by the coaches, as he's taken part in first team training sessions for a while and also been in the squad for the last couple of US tours, so it wouldn't surprise me if Vorm was on the way out (either in January or, more likely, when his contract's up at the end of the season) and he moves up as the third choice There's a few U23 and U18 reports saying he's kept the team in the game with some top class saves, but obviously there's a big gap between that and first team football so that's more of a guideline than a recommendation He also gives me the opportunity to joke about how Chav fans would prefer he played for their team than Jamal Blackman...
Ol' floppy chops was wrong too..a player like Suarez can always be accomodated. However that was a long time ago....main point is...Levy won't take risks for on field glory.
When the manager says not to sign a player, why should the chairman sign the player anyway? That's a damn good way to have you looking for a new manager. The only person in that situation refusing to take risks was Harry Redknapp, because he's the one who shut the door on the deal because he said VDV was all we needed. Also remember the fact that not only did Redknapp refuse to play Fraizer Campbell as he didn't want him (yet he hung around the club for the remainder of the season anyway) but a couple of seasons before Jol refused to play a couple of Comolli's signings that he didn't want or ask for, but the club still paid the fees and their wages in spite of the manager refusing the play them.
