It's gonna be a night to stay in. Ivor is going into overdrive, to be unchallenged by the apologists.
It’s no good Paul complaining about the lack of atmosphere at the Valley today ...it invites the obvious question The ref was fine today & gave us a stone wall penalty ...so what says the resident simpleton Bexley Boy ?
A penny dropped for me, reading some of the surreal comments from the regulars on ITTV. Setting aside the WUMS ...BB and Seriously ....the rest of them don’t actually care what the Charlton result is. The standard of the team is simply not an issue for most of them, so long as they can perform their Saturday afternoon ritual.
“Coventry are a strong side” - Colin They were in League 2 last season, they have struggled so far in League 1 by Mark Robins own admission, and they had lots of injuries yesterday. “Strong side”
That Sun Valley is another weirdo. “Fantastic individual skill” from our players. But not enough to prevent losing at home to a poor Coventry side #deluded #notarealfootballfan
There can be no excuses for this defeat. As you pointed out Royston, Coventry City were a League 2 side last season. Yesterday was only their second away win of this season - the other was against bottom for the table Oxford United. And Coventry have their share of injuries. For a team with serious ambitions to win promotion this should have been a routine home win. Instead it became a mugging, exposing the weaknesses of our squad. We dominated three quarters of the game. Yet we could not score from open play and conceded two simple goals from open play. Even the referee cannot be blamed. Aside from a few odd decisions he was competent enough.
Looks like Pearce got a bolloking from Bowyer in the dressing room. Good - the defending was pathetic. And it’s hard to dig out the kid Djiksteel, but both goals came down his side. He shouldn’t be playing.
I think that's a bit harsh. Naby was lively especially in the first half, breaking play up and being a nuisance. At one point the home fans sang their new Naby song "...he used to be shyte, but now he's alright..." But like others, Sarr lost his way as the second half wore on. Curiously, Coventry was the first game this season where our team did not pick up a single yellow card. I'm guessing this was because our players felt so dominant for such a long time, there was no need to rough the opponents up. Kicking them around would only have galvanised them to try harder.
Bowyer says Sarr is “too nice” to be a defender ...in my opinion he is too sh1t Given the ridiculous fee we paid for Sarr and his huge wages, he must be the worst of the Duchatelet signings ...which is quite a feat.
Certainly not the worst, the most expensive probably. The most SeriouslyRidiculous would be Teixeira supposedly paying him 12k a week with a 4 1/2 year contract. This in January when we were virtually down.
But Sarr is still here ...because nobody else wants him & will pay the silly money we do. At least Tex fvcked off
Sarr looked OK in the first half so did Dijksteel, but when the midfield, Aribo in particular, lost their mojo after about an hour the back 5 was exposed in all its weakness. It's not doing Dijksteel any favours persevering with him at RB. Anyone who hasn't seen him in midfield will assume he's a poor player and he isn't. I'd rather see Sarr at LB, Solly back at RB and AN Other at right CB, at least you'd have a balanced back 4 then. And Phillips in goal. Those marks are like a little boy watching his heroes.
