As things stand, I hope he stays. I really don't know why anyone thought we'd be anywhere higher than 21st. I'm honestly baffled by that. Most thought we'd struggle and that's exactly what were doing, so why are people surprised now? Disappointed yes, you can hope we might surprise, but I feel to blame Nigel Adkins is a just strange really. We did plan for league 1 and that's where heading. Move along, there's nothing to see here.
Stay I’m not a big fan, but he’s managing a poor, unbalanced, team in a toxic environment Hopefully I’ll get chance to assess him this season with those things changed
If he took the rose tinted specs off I might be inclined to agree, he seems to be watching different matches to me! I wish i was watching the ones he's watching cause the ones I'm watching are some of the worst I've ever seen over many years!
What's he gonna say? People complained when Bruce would always say how terrible it was after a bad defeat. The manager can't really win after a bad game can they? They have to come out and fulfill an obligation to talk but they can't come out and say look, my team are ****, what do you want me to do?
If he spoke the truth, he'd have to tell the media his players just aren't good enough and then he'd get slated for publicly slamming his own players. He can't win and as things stand, I don't believe any manager could.
Stay. Would like to see him given the chance with the right backing to re-build the club post Allams. Like with any manager, his selections and decision baffle at times, and ok, yes, he possibly could be getting more out of the **** hand he's been dealt, but don't underestimate the shambolic state of the club and how that hinders. He can't be blamed for the state of the squad - that falls squarely at the feet of the Allams, and Lee Darnborough (to what degree we just don't know). Adkins knows what he wants, but very clearly didn't get anything like what he asked for (noting his wishes seemed pretty reasonable, not unrealistic pie in the sky demands and targets). He hasn't been given anything like a fair crack at it, yet has managed to hold things together and inject a degree of otherwise totally lacking positivity - just imagine what it would have been like with some miserable, moaning, git in charge. So, clear stay from me, give him the chance and then judge fairly after a reasonable shot at it. He did a great job at Scunny and Southampton. Not realistic to judge him on Reading given the circumstances. He's a decent manager and a good guy who deserves much better.
I agree he’s a good guy. I’m not convinced he’s a good manager. We have total inflexibility when it comes to the formation we play. He does have players to try something different, but doesn’t. I find it frustrating.
Not seen or followed a single game since he joined. So not really in a position to judge. But he's an overbearing prat so he should probably piss off. Couldn't give a single **** atm to be honest.
It couldn't be more frustrating, GLP. But make no mistake. We are where we are because of the Allams. They hate us mate. Adkins wanted to manage a club again and I believe he was the best we possibly hope for under the circumstances and unless this takeover goes through, we definitely won't find a better man.
If the takeover does go through, I imagine they’ll either replace him or give him 5-10 games. Either way he has players at his disposal he hasn’t used and he could at least try and freshen things up with a different more attacking formation. The one he insists on playing is bloody awful.
We were hovering in and around the relegation zone for all of last season, not getting clear until the final weeks - we then let go the last of our high earners, our loanees (one of whose goals kept us up); then, despite the manager constantly stating he wanted his business done early, we waited until as late as we could before Darnbrough and the boy brought in a series of players that contained not one single player to strengthen a team that had constantly struggled the season before, it begs belief!
Sorry but it's nonsense to say a formation is awful. We've played pretty conventional systems that loads of other teams play so they can't be that bad. But bad players in a 'good' formation will still be a bad team. The idea that arranging them in a particular pattern for pre-match infographics is such an important factor in results is absurd.
