Knew I made a good last minute decision to 'pop' up to Goodison! Only 250 of us up there according to the stewards. Enjoyed the chants of 'is this a library?' sung in the face of 30,000 quiet Evertonians through out the match. And the Saint singing the feed the Scousers song on his own in front of the whole Park End stand! Thought we'd thrown it away until I realised it went straight to pens. Then I definitely felt we'd thrown it away! Damned if you do and damned if you don't but I think Hughes surrendered our control of the game too early in the late 70s minutes. We could have continued to frustrate them I think. The big difference from recent games was the hunger amongst the players. And the defence looked committed, especially Yoshida! Good performances around the pitch. And we handled the pen shootout very well. Four brilliant pens and they were lucky to score three of theirs. Gunn was fantastic!
I also thought 'here we go again' when their goal went in. May be mistaken, but didn't we win a penalty shoot out in our last run to Wembley in this cup (??)
Someone who takes pride in their job and enjoys it. Nice to see. A few more of he wouldn't go a miss.
Who can forget the last gasp Papa Waigo goal at St Mary's against Norwich...my mate was walking down the stairs after saying meet you at the car...he was soon next to me again
Yet again the defensive sub of bringing Davis on caused the issue. Nothing against Davis, but it really changes our approach bringing an extra midfielder on in place of a forward and we just can't handle it.
https://tbrfootball.com/bright-spark-southampton-fans-rave-about-nathan-redmond/ At least a few fans are coming round to praise Redmond....has had far too much stick. I have always said that he is one of our few exciting players who can conjure something up...we need a manager to get the best from him.
This Gunn v McCarthy issue is going to be interesting. McCarthy has the shirt and I see no reason to take it off him, but what a back up in Gunn. We are lucky to have 2 such good keepers....can be very hard at our level to be in that position. Let's hope we have good cup runs to keep Gunn interested and in form....otherwise his only chance would be McCarthy losing form or being injured...neither of which we want.
McCarthy hasn't looked all that to me this season. Certainly not his end-of-last-season form. Should've done better for a few of our goals, too.
Our kits look like relegation material We have comparable match day revenue, have a higher turnover, and rate higher in the current Deloitte 'rich list'. What's their infrasructure like? I'm not sure they're a lot bigger than us at all. Just more ambitious and are being backed by their owners. I know they were a bigger deal the 80's. Currently, Everton are very much in the bracket of the 14 other teams in the PL. Still a good win at at place we haven't won at, since their heyday.
