Ranger's Joey Barton goads Piers Morgan on Twitter

JOEY Barton has started a Twitter rant with Piers Morgan – and bet the TV presenter £2,000 QPR will survive the Premiership.

Rangers newest midfielder is trying to goad Morgan into a charity bet over both Hoops and Arsenal’s fate – the team favoured by the former newspaper editor.

Barton famously fell out with the Magpies over the use of his Twitter account, and was even threatened with legal action by boss Alan Pardew if he continued to comment on club matters.

Rs manager Neil Warnock has also made it plain he wants his own squad to follow much the same line as Newcastle's and not involve the club in personal messages.

But Barton’s latest outburst proves the former England international is still locked into the social network.

His message to Morgan read: “nice to c u have developed a pair pretty boy. So if we stay up and u finish 4th it's quits, if u finish 5th, we stay up 2k etc?”
Barton, like thousands of Rangers fans this week, was purring at the captures of winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, defenders Armand Traore from Arsenal, Luke Young from Aston Villa and Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland.

“Great bits of business by QPR, glad to see my old pal SWP and other solid signings, to add to a great set of lads. Onwards and upwards,” was another Barton tweet.

There was never a doubt that Joey B's a controversial package... we used to call that character - and in the 70s the game was full of characters. Much less so nowadays.

Just shows the anti-hype surrounding young Barton. Both examples of JB tweets are actually totally positive: the first a giggle with a wager going to charity; and the latter a big up to his new club and team mates...

Why you'd want to make a link with him tweeting against Ashley is beyond me. Eamon's signature, 'don't cry foul until you've been tackled' or words to that effect immediately springs to mind here.

Why is this classed as an 'outburst'?

Looks to me like a healthy bit of banter with a bit of money going to charity!

Def no worse than the banter on here!

I was pretty happy to see this today. Shows two important things to me-1. His heart is in it, 2. He believes we can do it!

Honestly, I think it's a bloody good idea. 2k to charity can never be a bad thing, whichever side wins!

Nice one, JB. Tell it like it is: PM is a c*nt and hopefully will go down for his part in the NI scandal.

Don't listen to the odd NUFC supporter on here saying Joey should shut up. To me they are all incipient Stalinists. I personally hope he continues to give the hierarchy at Newcastle grief. They must be gnashing their teeth now, knowing they can't hit him with fines etc, while he broadcasts their failings to his 500k followers on Twitter.

Joey, like all PL footballers, receives ridiculous wages, but the difference between him and the likes of Mike Ashley is this: Joey is at heart a working-class lad who has got where he is through his talent and ability; Ashley has done so on the backs of others and through sweated labour. If I were in Joey's place I would have similarly taken the fat bastard for every penny I could.

    Keep it coming, Joey son.

Excellent post! Full of 20th century caricatures with your Stalinist Toon fans, fat capitalist Ashley, Joey the working class hero and a Trotskyite narrative aimed at us QPR 'masses'! Great stuff Frank. No really!

Only concern is that you've managed to get all that across in two short paragraphs. Wish Marx had been so concise in Das Kapital!!

Well, thanks. I try my best! Honestly, though, I'm loving this. No doubt Joey will have to knuckle down soon with his new team (and do very well by the way), but in the meantime I hope he pisses off the hierarchy at Newcastle to the maximum, and there is bugger all they can do about it.

Interesting situation though isn't it? Working-class lad with money and (a lot) more intelligence than those who would normally have been his exploiters and who would have treated him with disdain in a 'normal' job, and who are yet are on the back foot, thanks to the wonders of modern technology and the high profile of football in his country. Don't think Marx foresaw this.

    Give it some gip, Joey!

I have just hacked Piers Morgan's phone: he has 4 pictures of a monkey ****ing a cat and 3 pictures of Sep Blatter filming the monkey, I couldn't make out the cat but it wasn't happy! He also tweets himself and has a online subscription to 'Brushed Demin' He is on pay as you go and has £2.17 credit.

Need I say more? These mushrooms are small Mother

You clearly ain't fond of Ashley are you? You should try Ecclestone and Briatore... at least Ashley's aware of the fans!

What?!? Of all the things Ashley can be accused of, that is probably at the bottom! I've never heard him talk. The only time we ever get any word from them is once after we sell a massive player.

Over the last 4 years Barton has been nothin more than a 'character' before that he was a thug but 2/3 years sober and with no major misdemeanours he'll do great for you.

Also I agree with FPL. Hope he gives it out to the max

I agree with you about Ashley but believe me you couldn't get much worse than the pair we've just had.

Ebenezer Scrooge in his darker days and Car Crash Flavio, the anti-Midas (everything he touched turned to ****!).

Toon buys players sometimes. Ecclestone and Briatore expected to take Europe with a team of cheap jobbing Championship players and a couple of wounded freebies... We were everyone's favourites for the drop (including our own) till the new owner came in a couple of weeks ago.

If Ashley was as bad as Bernie and Flav, Toon would be a League One side by now, believe!

Crikey, I know alot of fans say that Newcastle is their second favourite club.

But there seems to be a bit of a QPR / Newcastle love-in going on!

    Bring it on I say.

Although i'll never forgive them for swiping Jim Smith, Sir Les,Darren Peacock & Wayne Faraday from us!

( Oh & Keegan scoring ' that goal' against us on his debut in '82. I was there. )

    You old fart!

Also Brixton know doubt those two are worse but when it comes to communication with, and aknowledgement of, the fans, literally nobody can be worse than Ashley.
Something - anything - is better than nothing, right?
