Liverpool are only going to lose 4 games this season.... Twice to us in the League, league cup and FA Cup finals... ...
Agree 0-1 to the Saints. Was there to see Steve Moran's winner before being chased across stanley park!
Would prefer: McCarthy Cedric, Yoshida, Vestergaard, Bertrand Hojbjerg, Romeu, Lemina Redmond, Elyounoussi Gabbiadini We will get Long up top alone, however.
I think that was when we won 1-0 at boro in the snow. Although could be a separate occasion...im not sure.
I'm going to be really interested to see how Hughes handles this because so far this season it has been the Danny Ings show up front. After MP2 I really want to see a new approach with Armstrong and MoEl coming to the fore but after our first few games I'm expecting it'll be Long up front on his own to 'press' 'hassle' 'hold' and 'annoy' the Liverpool defence. Hoping Hughes shows a bit more imagination and nounce.
If Klopp were managing us I expect we would see something like that formation. But he isn't so the question is, is Hughes closer to Klopp or MP2 in his management approach?
Was philosophical about the point against Brighton....One has to be when supporting Saints.....but forgot the next game was v Liverpool.
I think I'd prefer Long if we're only playing one up top, and a front three of him, Redmond and Mo will give them something to think about on the break espescially.
Away at Liverpool is exactly the game Long is suited for. Let him run and chase the ball high up in the pitch and hopefully win us some throw ins so we can waste time from the first minute.
Two up top, and surrender the midfield? Long up top on his own, Redmond, Hojbjerg, Elyanousi in front of Lemina, three CBs, Bertie and Cedric
Ehhh, I don't think Redmond and Elyounoussi will give them much to think about at all. I'm intrigued by some of Elyounoussi's skillset, but pace in the open field is not really his forte. My issue with Long is that he'll chase balls, sure, and there's value in relieving pressure. But in this particular fixture, it's the value of keeping the scoreline 2-0 or 3-0, because he lacks the ability to turn the couple chances we'll have into a goal and we lack the defensive virtues to drop deep and hope to hold them. There's a good chance that Gabbiadini would be utterly anonymous, but there's a better chance IMO that he'll actually play a role in a goal.
