In the Moyglare Stud Stakes (3:40, The Curragh), I cannot see any reason why Zagitova should reverse course and distance running with SKITTER SKATTER, but Ryan has chosen her over Just Wonderful (perhaps because that one is dropping down in trip here). The biggest danger looks to be Beyond Reason, a good winner of the Prix Du Calvados last time, rather than Sweet Solera winner Main Edition, on whom Frankie may try to make all.

In the National Stakes (4:15), Ballydoyle provide more than half the field but this does look a match between course and distance winner Anthony Van Dyck and Godolphin’s Superlative Stakes winner Quorto. The unknown with the latter is the easy ground as he has been impressive in both his victories on quick ground.

In the Irish St Leger (4:50), I had to laugh when I went to look at the form for Flag Of Honour on the SportingLife.com website. Clearly there used to be a jumper of the same name as before 2017 there is a big gap to a Down Royal chase in 2011. Can Latrobe bounce back from his poor effort in the Juddmonte and make a race of it?

Over at Longchamp, the Prix Vermeille (2:50) is a Group 1 race in name only. I am not sure why Group 2 winner Kitesurf is favoured with the British bookies as Well Timed can at least claim to have won a Group 1 last time, albeit the German Oaks, for Jean-Pierre Carvalho. Magic Wand ought to acquit herself well, although I think she is best on quick ground, and good luck to David Lanigan with Worth Waiting, who has bypassed other options to come here after winning the Prix Minerve at Deauville (where Zarkava’s daughter Zarkamiya was behind).

Waldgeist puts his Arc aspirations to the test in the Prix Foy (3:35), having been off the track since just pipping Coronet in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud, and he may not be up to seeing off last year’s St Leger winner Capri, who has not run since April, and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Talismanic. It will be interesting to see how the Japanese runner Clincher runs with a view to the Arc after last year’s Japanese failures.

The Prix Niel (4:10) simply does not look to contain any real Arc contenders. Favourite Neufbosc chased home Kew Gardens in the Grand Prix de Paris but has not been seen since. Hunting Horn’s last trip to France saw him well beaten in the Prix Du Jockey Club. Unbeaten Brundtland won a listed race at Clairefontaine last time and could be anything, but would I want to back him at 4/1? This could be going to Germany as Andreas Wohler’s ROYAL YOUMZAIN was third in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin last time. If he went for the Arc, what price him to finish second like dad?

hi lads!wish you an successful sunday!

curragh,3 05: this could be a stellar weekend for the burke yard, after yesterdays heroics with laurens.they run HAVANA GREY in the flying five here, and this horse is really blossoming this season,as he won fairly well here in the sapphiere stakes.this looks a good bit harder today, but he was far from disgraced the last twice,at the highest level, especially his 5th place in the nunthorpe was a respectable effort.so,if he breaks well today, has a big chance to claim this race..

    curragh,4 50: IRISH ST LEGER

i think, the dark horse here is WEEKENDER.although this is another big step up for him,he may still progressing, and ran a smashing race under top-weight in the ebor,so there could be lots more to come..

a big field, but not neccesarily too many with serious chances.GETCHAGETCHAGETCHA looks most interesting here,as he wasnt disgraced by any means in the vintage stakes at goodwood, and didnt have the clearest of runs too.so,with any amount of progress very possible, looks a serious player here..

DANCETERIA has been one of the handicap fiends of the season, progressing with each run,and though hes gone up a whopping 27 lbr since his first win,he might still be progressing further, and has an incredible turn of foot,so definite chance.fran berry is also 3-3 on him,so ticks a lot of boxes here..

Not sure what to make of Too Darn Hot. Game as anything but looks on the small side and doesn't appear to cover much ground. Consequently has to expend much more energy covering the same distance as one with a longer stride. Makes me wonder if he will be good enough over the Derby distance, despite his pedigree

The cynic in me wonders whether he really has a tendon injury or it is just an excuse to pack him off to stud as he has failed to win in five starts since the 2000 Guineas and in hindsight that now looks like a moderate renewal.

According to the report on the SportingLife.com news site, she injured a fetlock in the Matron when unable to catch Laurens. She clearly was the best miler in training but her enforced absence leaves the remaining mile races open to the rest.

Too Darn Hot is probably one for next year, if he grows over the winter. I am not sure that I would be looking at him as a Derby contender as he seems to have a lot of natural speed.

Having backed Quorto ante post for the Guineas I was delighted to see him win the National Stakes. With so many potentially good juveniles around, I am hoping that they will not all avoid each other in the big two year old races in October. I liked the look of Sir Michael’s Sangarius the other day. He is definitely one for next year too.

I notice you say "if he grows over the winter". That is a question mark over him. His conformation won't change so I agree re the Derby. Re Sangarius, the form doesn't stack up too great but he won comfortably enough

Some family that Too Darn Hots, Dar Re Mi top class racemare, a half sister to River Dancer and Rewilding, a daughter of top class racemare Darara. Too Darn Hot is a full brother to So Mi Dar and Lah Ti Dar who just finished 2nd in the leger, both of whom are likely to become excellent broodmares. His siblings started out in backend 2yo and early season 3yo maidens and were proper middle distance types so he is not typical of the family. He didnt look like a Derby horse at Doncaster and would be rare for a 1m4 3yo to be able to do that at 7f. When New Approach was winning at 7f as a 2yo he was grinding it out and obviously crying out for further, but Too Darn Hot looks like a miler really, he will get 1m2 but maybe no further. If he does stay 1m4 and has these gears then hes a superstar.

They set the race up as a sprint that they hoped Saxon Warrior would win by kicking clear to prevent Roaring Lion using his turn of foot. It did not work – could blame Moore for not riding his mount further clear if it was going so easily. They should have put Donnacha on it! <laugh> The time 2:07 on fast ground compared to 2:08 for Decorated Knight last year on easy ground tells the story. The tactics failed, the grey still won. No “listen” excuses...

Sure, you know better than the lad sitting abroad him.

You actually believe they retired him in some sort of conspiracy?

What's your problem with them? Every time one of their horses gets beat(or wins) in a big race your on here moaning about them.

Your race reading skills are dismal. A horse trying to go over a rail and the jockey not using him whip aren't red flags to you.<laugh>
