Yep and it was pretty obvious during pre-season. Larsson is a big miss and we haven't replaced his bite. So far we've been lucky not to get injuries to Henriksen and Batty because there's really nothing else behind them. And relying on Batty to break through was a hell of a gamble. On top of that, even Henriksen is hardly proven; he had an excellent second half of last season but hasn't pulled up any trees so far this season. It's a shame because in some positions we've still got some good players, but central midfield is the heart of the team and ours is piss weak.
Philip Buckingham @PJBuckingham A boost for Wigan ahead of tonight. Sam Morsy's appeal for wrongful dismissal at the weekend has been upheld. He'll be free to face #hcafc this evening.
Fraid i cant see anything then a defeat .. with Powell coming back to show us why Brucey wanted him (unless he's injured).. 3-0 to the latics
Born offside. ONLY DAYS AFTER LINING-UP AGAINST THE TIGERS FOR WIGAN ATHLETIC IN A CARLING CUP WIN FOR PHIL BROWN’S SIDE AT THE THEN NAMED JJB STADIUM IN AUGUST 2007, CALEB FOLAN BECAME HULL CITY’S FIRST-EVER £1MILLION SIGNING. After beginning his career at Leeds United where he came through the youth system, the striker left for pastures new when joining Chesterfield on a free transfer in February 2003 having failed to make a senior appearance for the Elland Road outfit. He made 100 appearances – with 63 of those coming as starts – in just short of four years with the Spirites, scoring 15 goals along the way, to earn a move to the Premier League with Wigan in January 2007. However, his time at the DW Stadium proved to be brief as – after just two goals in 16 games for the Latics – he was on his way to the Tigers seven months later. The tall striker was soon making a much bigger impact than in his brief loan spell with the Tigers in November 2001, during Brian Little’s reign at Boothferry Park. Whereas his initial stint extended only as far as a 22-minute substitute appearance against Oxford United, Folan’s return was packed with drama and excitement. His ‘second’ debut ended with him spending the night in hospital as he suffered a neck injury during the televised game at Blackpool. Although the former Leeds United, Rushden & Diamonds and Chesterfield forward was hampered by niggling injuries during the 2007/08 campaign, he duly played a vital role in the Tigers’ historic rise to the Premier League. The most crucial of his nine goals – a header in the second leg of the Play-Off Semi-Final against Watford at the KC Stadium – virtually sealed the Tigers’ first-ever Wembley appearance. Folan was often used to great effect when coming off the bench, notably forming a potent strike partnership with Frazier Campbell. He cemented his place in the Tigers’ history books with the thrilling winner in the Club’s first-ever top-flight game against Fulham, with his 81st-minute strike securing an unforgettable 2-1 win at a packed KCOM Stadium in August 2008. His only other Premier League goals in black and amber came in a 3-2 defeat away at Portsmouth in 2009/10. After a loan spell at Middlesbrough, he departed the Tigers on a permanent basis in March 2011 when making the move MLS side Colorado Rapids. He left the KCOM Stadium having made 64 appearances for the Club, scoring 12 goals. Folan returned to English football with Birmingham City when penning a five-month deal in February 2012, only for a nerve injury to prevent him from making a single appearance for the St. Andrew’s outfit. His next destination was Malaysia Super League side T-Team, before joining Bradford City on a three-month contract in September 2013. However, he was soon on the move once again, returning to Asian football when signing for Burmese club Kanbawza. He enjoyed an impressive 2014/15 campaign, scoring 13 goals in 17 games for The Shan Warriors. His final club before calling time on his playing career was Central FC in Trinidad, who were managed by former Nottingham Forest, Birmingham City and Southampton striker Stern John.
Is he going 4-4-2 ... both Martin and Dicko in team .. Irvine also recalled and Evandro dropped to bench with Campbell
I was disappointed when we signed him, but, in my opinion, he played an important supporting role in promotion and therefore proved his worth as a signing.
Personally think this has to be the weakest central midfield pairing in the whole of the Championship
Wish posters would post the bloody team and not just comment. Do I have to do everything on these threads... Wigan Athletic: Christian Walton, Antonee Robinson, Samy Morsy, Will Grigg, Josh Windass, Reece James, Michael Jacobs, Cedric Kipre, Chey Dunkley, Nick Powell, Lee Evans. Subs: Owen Evans, Nathan Byrne, Darron Gibson, James Vaughan, Kal Naismith, Callum Connolly, Joe Garner. Hull City: David Marshall, Eric Lichaj, Jordy de Wijs, Kevin Stewart, Nouha Dicko, Jackson Irvine, Jarrod Bowen, Markus Henriksen, Stephen Kingsley, Chris Martin, Tommy Elphick. Subs: George Long, Reece Burke, Evandro, Kamil Grosicki, Todd Kane, Will Keane, Fraizer Campbell. Referee: Mr D. Webb.
Is this the usual suspects talking down the team the instant it has been announced? Shame on them. Dicko to play wide left, replaced by Grosicki after an hour, would be my guess. Marshall Lichaj; de Wijs; Elphick; Kingsley Henriksen; Stewart Bowen; Irvine; Dicko Martin
