After all the enthusiasm and optimism at the start of the season, I'd take a result over a performance here too (I think most of us would)! While I don't believe a win tonight would spark some improbable winning streak, we need to get three points and avoid dragging out this rut out any longer. Easier said than done against one of the division's most in-form and dangerous looking teams. However, this division is unpredictable and occasionally a surprising result turns up every round of matches, we need to ensure that it is us tonight. Following the unfortunate news regarding Kevin Beattie, I hope the players can raise their game even higher for remembrance.

I'm unsure regarding the starting line-up tonight but I believe Hurst needs to start settling on a consistent side to iron out the erratic approach to teamwork. He either needs to implement a Mick-lite approach and focus on avoiding conceding goals (possibly while playing the old Mick favourites and playing a system suited to their strengths) or jettison the players that look technically poor (Spence, Chambers, Skuse, and Graham off the top of my head) and populate the team with players willing to play with the ball at feet. Right now, it seems we have an awkward compromise between the two styles and it's leading to some ineffective, aimless long ball football.

Amen brother, like you, I will take a win by any means possible.

It's not snowboarding, we do not get bonus points for wins.

People wanted Mick out, he's gone. People wanted better football, we're probably playing better stuff. Hasn't exactly helped us has it, we're bottom, with a shower of a team from back to front.

What worries me Westy is this complacency, " there's a long way to go " and " plenty of time " coupled to " no need to worry " well the games are slipping past sometimes at the rate of two a week, so with all due respect to posters on this board whose contributions I value the recovery must start soon, preferably tonight.

I'll only start to worry if we are bottom, or adrift come January. There's 39 games to go. win one, draw one lose one for the rest of the season and we'll be comfortably mid table.
I think a draw tonight (i guarantee you we won't lose), a win against Bolton on Saturday, and a draw away to Brum could take us out of the bottom three.
I still think we'll come good (as in not get relegated), and our strikers will soon start banging them in.
I'm still keeping the faith, at least for another couple of months

This season is becoming all our worst nightmares about how it would turn out. The niggling doubts that we would get sucked into trouble before the system bedded in and hurst became pressed to get results any way possible have, unfortunetly, come true and resulted in decisions and systems that appear based in "hit and hope".

I have said on other threads I am still sticking resolutely to a positive outlook. This is mainly because of the jeckyll and Hyde difference between us home and away.

So I'm not giving too much weight to Hull. Based on a home record which is actually quite positive all things considered predicting a 1-0 win. This will turn a 4 game run without a win into a 5 game undefeated run. This will set us up nicely for the first consecutive home game of the season, get some momentum going to feel more positive about the next away game at Birmingham where we can start repairing the away form. The sun will shine again.

I’m loving the optimism, Mike, but I’m not expecting anything this evening and I haven’t seen much from this team to suggest we can go on an unbeaten run. I believe we should be aiming to win all our home games by attacking, something our previous manager didn’t often understand, but with my realistic hat on, I think a draw would be a decent result tonight. Bolton and Birmingham are the matches where we should be targeting six points, if we’re going to put some form behind us and are going to have any chance of pulling clear of the bottom.

    DEAR GOD.

    He's gone 3-5-2.

Out the blue, system change vs a quality side.

He's either inspired, a genius - or an utter car crash.

    We'll soon see I guess.............

Edwards and Nolan on the bench. Walters presumably the player out injured. Think we’re taking a leaf out of Mick’s book and playing for the draw / scrappy win with a long ball game.

I don't mind one / two up top!

I do not however like changing, out the blue it seems, from a back 4 that bar set pieces is doing well.......... to a back 3 with wingbacks out the blue!

    6 changes for Norwich.

    Just the 5 tonight.

Mick didn't make 100000 changes a game thank god. This is me lost with Hurst. Lose, and he's going to get pelters.

Win, fair play to the lad. Hope it's a win. COYB.

Difference being Hurst is a new manager still trying to find the right formation and players. This has come after a summer of wholesale changes, some of which have been attributed to him and others to player departures. I don’t like the amount of changes as he doesn’t lead to consistency, but at least he’s being proactive and trying alternatives. Just think we’ve gone to shut up shop and get the point here, for better or worse.

I thought we should have gone 3-5-2 last season with the personnel we had. I don’t mind the change in formation but I would have played Donacien right wing back with Kenlock on the left and dropped Spence
