I said this the day Dave C offered it if we voted for him.

I agree with almost every word.

Except it's not too late to stop before we reach the cliff edge.

I still think there is a way out too. A second referendum is probably the only way to stop the incessant cries of “we voted for it, so it has to happen”.

LSE has had 18m euros of funding.
IFS has had 7m euros of funding.
OECD has had 30m euros of funding
TUC, NUS, Unite, CWU, GMB, Unison, NFU all get EU funding.

None of these bodies are actually independent. They all get funding from government and/or EU or vested interests. They are not self funding.

As an Englishman living in The Hague about to apply for an EU family entry permit for my Indonesian wife I second the need for another vote. Add the need to extend the right to vote to expats previously denied one to.

Eh? What funding do any of those Unions get from the EU, or from govt?

They are funded by their members

They have all had funding from the EU. Whether it is dressed up as for "projects" not tied to actual "core" work or not. They could be spending the money they spend promoting the EU fiercely on those "projects" and not receive funding from a body that they then promote.

If you are receiving money from the EU then people will quite obviously be sceptical of you defending or promoting them.

Similarly when we have an "independent" OBR which constantly defends the Treasury (albeit they tinker with the number slightly to look like they come up with different answer) yet is funded by the Treasury then it is not surprising that people doubt it's independence. Especially when Treasury "forecasts" something which the OBR gives almost the same numbers and both are way out on reality once it happens............as was the case on their referendum effect forecasting.

On the TUC thing we can also start to doubt the motives of a union leader who declares war on inequality, denounces bosses and those who exploit workers, argues about stagnant wages and the percentage of pay rises, describing FTSE wages as telephone numbers.............whilst trousering an £18k package rise since she took the job to bump her pay up to pay and renumeration package higher than the PM. She has had pay rises that total what most of those who she supposedly fights for get as a total salary.

Yeah, right, Frances O’Grady is the enemy of the working class for getting paid to represent the interests of her members. Sorry mate, that’s just desperate stuff from the right wing media, the same media that keeps running with all the “Jeremy and the Jews” nonsense; peddling any narrative that can be used to discredit the Labour movement.

Oh, and I did a bit of research after reading your post last night. It seems the TUC have received a small EU grant specifically for their education program; which appears to have provoked faux outrage from a couple of far right websites. Lame stuff again Imps. I thought you were better than that.

What education programme was that then? And why did they not spend their own on that instead of making Pro EU videos?

The Labour movement does not need any help from the media. they are keeping the story running by the minute as the posts on all platforms tally up. You should take a look every now and again. It is not restrained and cannot be confused with direct reference to Jews this, jews that.

The TUC has a long and honourable tradition providing workers education programs Imps. So that education program.

And no, I won’t be ferreting about in the most sordid recesses of the internet for news feeds, thanks. While the English speaking world still has something that equates to a reputable media, I’ll stick with the The Guardian, the BBC (despite it’s recent lurch to the right) and the Washington Post.

Well you'll all be glad to hear that I won't be on here as much over the next week or two posting my "alt-right propaganda" as the council have informed me I have finally won a 3 bed house and thus I have till Monday to get everything out of this 2 bed into the new one........eek.

That's right, they told me today that I get the keys to the new house tomorrow and have 4 days to move the whole content of a house and arrange all the TV, internet, electrics, water and all sorts of other stuff I have yet to remember to add to my list of to dos............and then the old house keys must be at City Hall before 9-30am on Monday. Lovely bunch of realists at the council. Hey ho.

At least my little (7 year old) daughter will have her own bedroom now rather than be in the same room with mum and dad.

Happy days for us all ;) Enjoy the (near) silence.

Good luck in your new home Imps <ok>

Perhaps you’ll spare a thought for the people I step over on my way in to work every day (rough sleeping in the capital has doubled since the Tories came to power).

I always spare a thought for the homeless and eveyr other "genuinely in need" person. It is the political version of poverty (of which I am included) that I have a problem with.

Just because you’re doing alright Imps, doesn’t mean there isn’t a growing gulf between rich and poor in this country, nor that there aren’t a lot of working families facing genuine hardship. Maybe you’re better at playing the benefits system than many others are. Maybe you’re just lucky.

Either way, I wish you all the best in your new home, genuinely.

Lol. You don't know how restrained I have been so far this year. You might not believe it but I often like and not post because I can't be bothered at the time.........or feel that neither the other poster or myself are getting anywhere so I let it go.

Hey Imps, our politics may be at odds, but I'd rather hear your rationale than not. Always provoking. Hope the move goes smoothly. Am writing this somewhere about 60 miles West of Oviedo walking the Camino, roughly 250 miles gone and 150 miles to go. Going through the mountains. Home in time for Chelsea all being well.
