Swarbs. I convinced that FSG have a philosophy of making incentive payments. The more the team is successful...the more they are successful, everybody is a winner. So I doubt it for one minute if they are going to hand out any sort of a pay-rise until they get results. Thats if they even do issue any sort of a pay-rise. Instead they may issue a bonus scheme. This could be somenthing like win the league, £2.5 million is divided up between 20 players, win the CL £3 million is divided up between 20 pkayers, win the FA Cup £1.5 million is divided up or something to that effect. The numbers are just examples.
It is a good philosophy, but whether it will work in practice is another thing. The Glazers have put the same sort of thing in place at Utd for some of the squad players, but I heard reports that Rooney's outburst in October was due to Utd offering him an incentive based contract with a low basic pay. Likewise Berbatov still hasn't signed a new contract despite only having 12 months left cos he's only getting an incentive based deal due to his age. I think as I said above it will all depend on the response of the most important and highest paid players in the squad to the system. If they are happy with it then everyone else will fall into line. If not, then do you sell Suarez and Gerrard for the sake of preserving your wage structure, when selling them will likely hurt revenue and thus you'll end up in an even worse situation.
Of course it is, but other clubs don't have the "we won't give you a pay rise, ever, even if you've been carrying the team for the last 3 years" policy.
If Man City win the Premier League this year, will it be down to buying the league or not... They will have at least 4 players on over £100k a week, minimum...!!! If Man City dont win the league this year, and by the way they have been the Premierships biggest spenders for the last 4 years now, then they will spend again. Maybe not as much as this season, but they will... The down side is that they wont be able to get rid of the players because or their wages... Who would take Barry, Milner etc if they wont lower their wage demands. As for the likes of Tevez and all the very top, top earners, they arnt easy to shift... If Man Utd win the league then they just sharpen up with a few buys, thats how i would like us to be in 4-5 years. Weve shifted a lot out and brought a few in, but the numbers will be less next year if we improve and get top 4... To put a bounty/buy out clause, call it what you will on a player isnt our style or the new owners way of thinking... We are in a good position and i wouldnt see Saurez looking elsewhere just yet. Regardless of the fact he has said that one day he would like to play for Barca...
There are idiot on this entire forum that have stated that FSG got rid of so many players to cut costs. I will attempt to educate the uneducated. Footballers are the current assets of the business whereas the stadium and the training ground are the fixed assets. All businesses want to get value out of their current assets or there is no point having them. FSG didn't want to pay wages to players that are not part of the managers plans. So they were made depart, this frees up funding for additional players. Liverpools squad was stream-lined, it was made leaner, Liverpool now have a squad where every player has a purpose. The majority of them will be used when necessary and the reason why they are there is because Kenny knows he can depend on them.
