Pipe-opener for an autumn campaign over hurdles? Certainly one I am interested in over timber this season
Cliffs of Dover has gone down 5 lbs since last running over timber – now on 140. Also since his last hurdles outing his Flat perch has risen from 64 to 87. The daughter has done a good job with him (I didn’t realise until the other day that she also trains the Flat string) but I’m sure that Daddy Paul will be looking forward to getting this one back (and targeting a major handicap hurdle in the process) especially as his performances on the Flat indicate the 5YO is still improving. Deffo mileage off 140, methinks. I’m surprised though that the racing purists (remember them?!?) haven’t interjected to point out that Cliffs of Dover is actually 1 lb ‘wrong’ today.
Worth pointing out he is a pound "wrong" today (as a racing purist might say). Cliffs Of Dover looking like a "good ground" horse on all known form so perhaps the Greatwood Hurdle as an early season target? If that goes well save him for Aintree?
good point with the 11 lbr hike, and its fiercely competitive too,but i think,he could have much more in the locker, especially,as hes still unexposed over this trip.so,i ll back him today e w..good luck, whatever you back..
well,no excuses, had a good run through the race, the others were just that bit stronger today.will find another race, for sure. donny,3 35:doncaster cup a tough decision for me,as i am a big fan of both SHEIKZAYEDROAD and algometer, ironically both from the same yard, but a slight nod goes to the former.he wasnt at his best the last twice, but maybe had excuses, and i know, hes pretty useful on his day.deserves to get his old head in front again..
listowel,4 20 i know, they say, never let your heart rule your head, but i am willing to make an exception to the rule here, regarding old CARLINGFORD LOUGH.true, hes been disappointing so far last season, but is now 14 lbr lower than when winning the punchestown gold cup 2 years ago.so,if he can capitalise on that today, can run a massive race.and there ll be no dry eye in the house if he wins, thats for sure..
oh,that looked really bad,but luckily he got to his feet..maybe retiring?whats your thoughts?.. listowel,5 50: well, the mullins/elliott horses deserve automatic respect here, but charles byrnes is also a very good trainer, and his filly LATE AGAIN could play a leading role too today.there must have been something amiss last time out,as she was well fancied that day,and had a break since then,so a much better showing wouldnt surprise, and her second place to a useful rival two starts back looks good enough,to be considered here..e w value..
Doncaster – Flying Childers Stakes Solder’s Call – what a beast, out the gate and gone. Lovely long reaching stride on him, floating over the ground. Definitely one to keep on the right side; and if it is not just a precocious juvenile then one for next year. Doncaster – Flying Scotsman Stakes Sangarius – difficult to assess what he actually beat but he did it with a nice change of gear and the minimum of fuss. Will the next stop be the Dewhurst? It is the only future entry he holds this season.
