I'm not saying it's right, just that they have taken his earnings into account. £50k is not the typical fine I'd imagine.

The Standard are reporting the club have fined him the maximum of 2 weeks salary - £250k. If I lost that much money, it would seriously alter my life.

The details make it clear that his behaviour was even worse than we thought, unfortunately.
We should do something public as a club to make it clear that it's unacceptable.

Judging by how screwed he sounded on about six pints, I'd guess that this isn't something that he does often.
Sticking a public apology on our social media sites would be a start, but I feel that Lloris should do a bit more.
His statements sound like he knows that he ****ed up and I think that he'd want to try and repair the damage to his reputation.

The club leaking the above shows how seriously they take the
PR viewpoint, regardless of what fine UK Justice Ltd were to impose.

Some public contrition on behalf of the club (community service on some
drink-driving awareness scheme etc) would IMHO not go amiss.

  5. It's not only his reputation that is damaged in all this - by default the club is vulnerable and the implications are that his teammates will be too - allegations of a 'drinking culture' will no doubt abound.

However, accepting his behaviour warrants the various punishments, Hugo should take a hard look at the company he keeps, if none of his friends on the night tried to advise or stop him driving. He was clearly pissed out if his box!!

    Poor show all round!

The time he's paid tax and NI on that it will be about one weeks money. He can afford that. Expensive nights drinking though.

  9. I know that Poch has come out and publicly supported Lloris, both in words and by not stripping him of the captaincy, but I really cannot believe that he will be impressed by what has happened.

We all know what a disciplinarian Poch is, and the levels of professionalism that he demands from all of his players. And we know what an authoritarian Levy is.

My view is that the club will strip Lloris of the captaincy and give it to Kane. It might not be something that is done immediately, but it will happen by the beginning of next season.

Does anyone else think his injury is a bit of a coincidence?
I wonder whether Poch stuck with him for Utd because he didn't know the true severity of it and now he's been told he's injured

  11. I think that is most certainly true.

Poch will be keen to limit the media backlash for the sake of the club and the rest of the squad.

Lloris was twice the legal limit.
His sentence reflected the Magistrates' guidelines for drink driving, which are very prescriptive. If anything, his fine was light.
He was in a French restaurant and no doubt drinks were being provided liberally to celebrate the World Cup win. That's fair enough, but why drive your car when you must have known you weren't fit? This is a man who doesn't need to take his car when he goes out. He can afford a chauffeur, never mind taxi fares.
He's made a stupid and avoidable mistake, but it has little bearing on his ability to do his job.
To make a stance, Spurs should strip him of the captaincy for this season and then reinstate him next season. That shows the club take it seriously and question his judgement, but once his paid his dues, the issue can be put to bed.

He did actually order a cab, but it cancelled. I'm not sure if this is better or worse, as it shows that he knew he wasn't in any state to drive.

  15. But WHY go out for the night and take your car!! Presumably he was sober when he made that brainless decision!

I'm torn on the captaincy issue, but probably think it would be better to remove it from him.
Would certainly reinforce the club's position without causing any upset in the dressing room and I'm not sure it would have any impact on the pitch - it's not as if Hugo is a vocal leader and many of us already think that the armband should be handed over.

He may not have planned on drinking or he could've intended to leave his car there overnight and come back for it.

  17. But he was going out for the night to a Central London French restaurant, a couple of weeks after winning the WC. People were buying him drinks - No ****, Sherlock!!

Get the feckin' tube or pay out for a Chauffeur!! It's even a French word FFS!! <laugh>

I think you'll find that Uber is a word that was only used in France between 1940-5...
