I blame him for single handedly bringing coriander into our diets. I hate the bloody stuff <laugh>

I thought he was refreshingly different to other TV type chefs at the time.

There's actually a known gene that some people have that makes coriander taste bad.

To a minority of people coriander has an unpleasant flavour that most other people don't taste. Unlike most foods disliking coriander is all about your genes not your upbringing our just personal preference.

Coriander is very common in the US because of our proximity to Mexico where (known as cilantro) it's a very common herb. The mother in law hates it.

I love fresh coriander, but it’s not easy to buy here as it’s not very popular with the Spanish. They love their Parsley, but Cilantro, no.

I usually grow my own to be sure of having a supply.

Yep, I believe I'm one of the 14% (not sure where that figure comes from?) that has the gene which makes coriander taste like soap. Unfortunately for me, it's an overpowering taste that means even if the chef uses the same knife on my meal that he has cut up coriander with, I find it that unpleasant that I'm unable to eat the meal. I had to stop having Asian food as no matter how many times I said no coriander I could still taste it!
