You either play for your national side or you don’t Don’t get me wrong I really dislike the international calendar However I support England and I really wish one of the managers would just turn and go ‘ Y’know what, if you have a minor issue but you manage to turn out for your club following game You are done with the internationals because we don’t need you’ End of and I include our lot in that
I don’t really pay much attention to the other home nations in this area but is there anyone who knows if this is rife in other countries, because it doesn’t look like it is to me, I think Giggs did for Wales but outside of that it seems to me most of the home nations and countries - the players seem proud to pull in their national shirt ? Or am I just not seeing the bigger picture?
Just one of those things that really bugs me It is obvious to the world (not gonna pick on one player cause it isn’t about the clubs to me) that a player is not injured when he has a minor injury forcing him out of a friendly. Just winds me up
Southgate just wants to protect his job so picks individuals with the highest profiles like Sterling, Alli, Kane despite all the evidence that they offer nothing to England
Could you pick a better bunch? Obviously club managers are able to go for any nationality (subject to work permits) whereas national ones have a much smaller pool to fish in. They don't want to lose their best players so are prepared to pander to their whims.
Southgate already said if need be, he would look into the championship for England players. To be honest, there are some championship players that can do better than some England players.
It's his full time job to spend 95% of the year searching for the best English players that could form a coherent system. Instead he spends his time in Man City hospitality quadruple checking that yes Sterling can sprint past a relegation candidate's fullback and pass the ball to a foreign #worldclass forward to score, none of which helps England Saying < Doing England will achieve nothing with Southgate because he has no system, apart from playing with 3 CBs and 1 CM then wondering why he can't control a game.
Dele Alli out for England against Switzerland but should be fit to play Liverpool Watch England v Switzerland live on Sky Sports Main Event from 7pm on Tuesday http://www.skysports.com/football/n...itzerland-but-should-be-fit-to-play-liverpool
I fully agree with you that a balanced team would be a better bet than just collecting together the more obvious high-profile players and hope you can shape them into a team. However, he might have a lot of time to observe the players around the country, but very little time in practice to get them together to experiment. The only way to do that would be to take more, or longer, breaks from the domestic season - and I for one say **** that to that idea. I really don't care enough about the national team to see any more time taken up by them.
Don't know really. I've just always been a club football man. I'm not very nationalistic so I don't like the us and them attitude and the jingoism that goes with it for lots of people (not everyone, I realise). I'll watch internationals, but if they interfere with the club programme then it just annoys me. If Liverpool don't win, I'm grumpy for a while, if it's the national team I'm just not bothered.
it's funny how spurs felt the need to a) gloat they pulled this off b) reassure their fans he isn't injured.
Unfortunately, players will always lean towards the club in these arguments because of the mega wages they receive
it would be interesting if Southgate finally realises that 352 is actually 532 when any decent side plays you. all it takes is a couple of half decent side forwards to occupy those wing backs and that spare cb stood round doing nothing is suddenly watching st the opposition 433 is suddenly out manning the middle and dominating. Southgate is fixated on this formation. the seeding in euros and wc squalid puts England up against mostly weak teams so he will cruise by. but I expect England to be drubbed in nations league, the press will write the comp off as meaningless anyway and it'll all roll to euros where England will get a half decent group prob finish second and play some team that embarrasses them. I honestly found world cup pretty dull fare bar a lot of set piece goals as refs decided nobody could touch anyone from corners.
