When Carroll was at Newcastle I thought he was the complete centre forward tbh. Could do everything, had more pace than people gave him credit for, could score all kinds of goals, is a presence, defends from corners, beast in the aire, sets up goals, great left foot and right not too bad, has strength and played with passion.

Just at Liverpool I don't think he is settled. I honestly believe he still wishes he played for us

<doh> Some people on this website I swear.

I'm not trying to claim that Best is better than Carroll. It's just as the MEANINGFUL statistics show in-terms of goals, there's not as much difference as you might think when it comes to comparing the almighty Carroll too the '****' Leon Best.

    Ludicrous comment IMO

Carroll is quicker and has the ability to take on players, his passing is very tidy and can even play very decent long balls, we seen a couple of them when he played for us.

Carroll has the ability to strike from long range, not sure I've even seen Best attempt anything like that.

He is fantastic in the air when on form and can literally outmuscle any defender to win the ball.

When he played for us he had the mentality about him that you knew he would break his neck to win the ball or keep the ball, I dont see that from Best, hes a canny player but he doesnt chase things down and looks lost and lazy at times.

I can feel an argument coming up here!

Best is a good 2nd or 3rd striker for a club aiming for Europe. In a perfect world where FMA and DL were people who did what the fans wanted with the funds we have - we would have Roux and Cisse (realistically) and then Best.

OK I'm NOT SAYING BEST IS BETTER THAN CARROLL. I'm just saying to all the Best haters that what Chappaz just presented here shows that even ****ing ''Championship class'' Leon ****ing Best is actually on par with Carroll in the goalscoring stakes. Carroll ****s all ove Best in terms of being a ST though! Better in the air, has defenders actually worried and his work-rate was amazing!

"Carroll scored 11 goals and made 6 assists, finding the net against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City and confirming his prowess as a top-class Premier League forward."

You are right though apart from the one that I recall from the Liverpool game for Nolan that made it 2-1 I cant think of others off the top of my head, but you would think at least a couple of them would have got us some points and changed the ratio considerably.

Kudos to anyone who can remember all of his assists?

You'd be right but hes not trying to compare all round center-forward play, just the goal scoring

You claimed that Best had more to his game than Carroll and that's what I commented on because in my opinion its simply not true. But each to their own <ok>

I actually think hes a canny striker but for some reason I just cant see him cutting it, bear in mind that 5 of the 8 goals hes scored have been in just 2 matches and it paints a slightly ****ter picture.

I would definitely have him starting though, him and Ba as I think those guys are the best we have at the moment, with the odd bit of Sammy thrown into the mix ;)

To be fair Best played well against fulham. He gave their defenders a torid time. He looks like he might be a confidence player so lets give him the benefit of the doubt. If he scores a goal against QPR and we win then I am thinking he might just be the answer with our creative midfield and then we will have ben arfa back soon.

Thiery Henry was a winger before joining Arsenal and look how he turned out. Maybe (Im hoping) Ben Arfa goes the same way. Hes technically quite the same type of player as Henry in ter,s of skill.

So maybe come January we may be ok!

I'm not working that out

Interesting to note we've 'lost' 22 assists. Hopefully Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Marveaux and Obertan can get some <ok>

The thing is with Best if we're all being completely honest hes not going to be one of those strikers who creates chances or works hard to run around and score goals, so its of absolute importance that our midfield are gelled and on song this season, because I think if our creativity is great then he will score, if its not it could be a long, long season.

Basically everything rests on the midfield and the sooner HBA is sorted the better!
