Good to see Auba and Laca scoring today.

If we are to do anything of value this Season we need this two to be playing well.

I have the feeling Emery see's it as Torrerira or Guendouzi. and Xhaka or Elneny but I think our best combo would be Torreira and Guendouzi.

Would also be nice to see Leno getting some games - surely he's better at the ball with his feet than Cech?

Cech is awful with his feet. But his overall game is still up there. I think we'll see Leno come in for the Europa league and Carabo cup games.
Agree about Torreira and Guendouzi, they are by far better players than Xhaka and Elneny, I can only assume that Emery wants to bed them in slowly rather than throwing them both in together at the same time.

I've rewatched the highlights and frankly, it is shocking how many chances Cardiff created by getting the ball wide and either crossing it in or taking our players on. We looked like conceding nearly every time they went forward.

I know I keep harping on about this, but we need to defend better in wide areas. In every single game we've played so far, it is the one recurring theme.

Aubameyang scored a lovely goal today, but I still feel he is wasted out wide because he doesn't offer much defensively, nor is he a natural winger. For large parts of the game, he was on the periphery. And he only looked threatening when he came in centrally. I can't see him being too happy if he continues to play on the left. It isn't his position.

Ramsey, likewise, didn't always offer Bellerin enough support when Cardiff tried to attack on his side. The Welshman had an average game, but didn't really contribute much.

Monreal didn't have a good game either, and it was terrible that he let Ward get away from him so easily for their 2nd equaliser. But again, he too didn't have much help when Cardiff attacked down the wings.

Now - if Emery is insisting that he wants this system to work, the players need to be just as committed tracking back as they are running forward. So far, this isn't happening.

That being said, we also shouldn't have too many square pegs in round holes. Welbeck or Iwobi would have provided more balance to the team if either one of those started on the flanks, for example. Because they have the qualities to play out wide. Ramsey is a central midfielder and Aubameyang is a striker, yet both were playing as makeshift wingers. It didn't really work, in my opinion.

A great day for Sport, we win the test against India and the series, Hamilton wind the FI Grand Prix and tiny Watford beat the arrogant, cheating scum despite the best efforts of the officials, the ref in particular and Tottenham were so poor we had to score their goal for them just so they didn't look too pathetic
Harry Kane now scores in August lets hope now he doesn't score for the rest of the season and Tottenham finish where they belong, lower mid table

We're still gelling but we have a good run of games to get things straightened out before our next major test in Liverpool.

Good choice mate. Torreira looks like he's going to be a good player for us.

Hope you've been keeping well ? I know you said you had a lot of studying to do. Hope it all went according to plan ?

Yeah. Graduated from undergrad and now in Pharmacy School. Its still time consuming but I think I've learnt to manage time better.
Also agree on Torreira. He's able to inject that extra bit of urgency needed to our build up play as well as protect the Back 4 the best out of all our midfielders. He almost seems like a Cazorla/Kante hybrid. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

He needs to start ahead of Xhaka for me.

Until we sort out our full backs, it isn't going to matter who plays in the middle. You can rage on about Xhaka and the CBs and defending all you want, but every goal we let in, is almost always because one or other or both of the two full backs have gone AWOL, or switched off.

    Well it's clearly tactical.

Monreal and Bellerin have been asked to push right up past midfield. This only works if at least one of your DM/CM's drops deep into the defence though. Guendouzi is still learning and he is naturally looking to get forward and Xhaka is well defensive lacking. I think starting Torreira will help this as he's naturally more inclined to sit back.

It isn't always a case of being caught up the field. For the second Cardiff goal Bellerin gives the crosser about half an hour to cross the ball , with eventually a half-ass attempt at closing down, and then Monreal then gets beaten all ends up when it arrives in the middle. Monreal somehow allows the ball to drop, the attacker to control it, to turn, and shoot. I would have been pissed at my under-10s for that defending.

The two of them are awesome going forward but defensive talents they are not.
