I think the biggest (only?) complaint is her comments that she basically wouldn't consider external investment at all. Not looking for it, and wouldn't take it even if it was offered on extremely altruistic terms. At a time where we can all see the only way to progress within 10 years is to have someone splash the cash, it doesn't sit well. Especially when she's put a succession plan in place which ensures this attitude will continue.
By god that was gash. I know it's the Derby but that was horrible to watch for everyone. As I said before, we should have beaten them because they are a poor side desperately hoping that they can transition back into a midtable side that hoofs it a little less. That we couldn't and that we looked very poor in a halfarsed attempt to do so, is the end of any hope I have that Farke can even bring about a challenge for the playoffs. He hasn't a clue. For we we must beat Borough next for him to have a shred of plausibility as a championship manager. I haven't even been drinking! Bah! edit: We need that cringeworthy dried up old witch out of the club ASAP, or lge1 here we come.
That and the fact that to fund the Colney upgrade, they had to issue a 'bond' t raise the funds really worries me. I know that the haemorrhaging of the PL wealth can be explained, but it doesn't take someone with Balls' financial wizardry to realise that when you have all that money, that you put some aside for a 'rainy day'.
Where did all the cash go? I know there were some pay offs but that’s only a fraction. Did someone take it out of the club?
Ed Balls glitzy suits don't grow on trees, you know. The money for Maddison and Josh is earmarked as it 'covers the black hole left by the drying up of parachute payments'.
I have to say that was the WORST derby day in years...by a stretch. Ipswich played more hoofball than I have seen even by their standards. Our defenders struggled with anything in the air although ultimately dealt with it in the end, a very worrying sign. Aarons looked good except for one dodgy cross field ball. Lewis was solid and good going forward. What suprises me is Hanley and Klose, they have played together for a year now and the partnership looks somehow weaker?! Leitner is not a CM, maybe a CAM but he doesn’t offer anything defensively and I would much rather see a combination of Trybull, Tettey, Godfrey and Thompson in the centre of the park, or even Vrancic when he’s back. Also, why has Farke stuck Thompson out in the RW the last couple of games?? When he came on I thought he would drop in alongside Tettey to try to regain some midfield control, push Leitner forward to CAM and move Pukki to the wing for some pace. Pukki was the one with the most desire out there for me today. Buendia looked good in flashes and ran all over the pitch like he had a point to prove but was a little rash in the tackle, particularly in our own half, still he showed promise. Hernandez was a threat, especially in the second half. Up top Rhodes did little for me, although i think that was due to a lack of service, he held the ball up well and brought others in to play but we just didn’t see enough of it. Srbeny puts himself about a bit more. I’d actually like to see Pukki lead the line, he’s strong, pacey and good on the ball.
Can’t help but feel George Ezra’s stitched us up: Time flies by in the yellow and green Stick around and you’ll see what I mean There’s a mountaintop* that I’m dreaming of If you need me you’ll know where I’ll be** * the PL ** not in the PL
From MB's article in today's EDP and I like how DF is STARTING to bring in some of our youff Colney is bearing juicy fruit. Academy recruitment is a hidden gem. In some cases it costs significant money; in others the rewards can be far greater. Ben Godfrey joined from York – then playing first-team football – while both Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis arrived from Luton Town. From there, City can claim all the credit they need in developing a wonderfully robust holding midfielder with centre-back tendencies and a pair of attacking, energetic full-backs. Indeed following Timm Klose’s half-time withdrawal through concussion, that trio plus captain Grant Hanley provided an average rounded age of 21 – believed to be City’s youngest defensive unit fielded this century (care of @ncfcnumbers on Twitter). For all the work City have put in to plug gaps with cheaper players from leagues outside England, to the more exciting signings with most potential, it’s still the ones popping up from Colney that provide the most satisfaction. Long may it continue. This, coupled with the development of JM and Middleton should certainly help us in recruiting up and coming talent from across UK. Disclaimer - The trouble is, ALL of these developing talents will have to be sold to plug any future financial gaps and leave us with the 'also-rans!!!'
Overpaying wages for players on long contracts, some of which we've still not shifted. We're in our third season in the championship, and there's still players from those PL days who have made a negligible contribution, yet drawn £20k+ p/w from the club.
Absolutely. With our chosen set up we're a selling club for sure. There's a bit of pressure to keep churning out a JM or Murphy every season.
Lewis and Aarons should bale us out next year How can the club have realistic ambitions of making progress when we know this cherry-picking cull will happen year after year?
The defence were ok yesterday and improved when Godfrey came on , the problem was the chipping out everything for a 50/50 and putting us under pressure. The atmosphere when Town scored was mental which made it all that sweeter when we levelled . We look disjointed most of the game against poor opposition and Walters caused us problems every time the ball went to him. If that shot that cannoned off the near post had gone in then it would have been much tougher. Krul still looks iffy and I have no idea why he spends so much time around the half way line when we are taking free kicks and corners.
As long as we have D&M (plus their nephew!!) at the helm, I fear we're destined for lack of ambition/mid table finishing.
IMO the financial pressure has now been eased by the sale of the two JM's and Pritchard before that. Oliveira and Jarvis are the only non-contributing players still around, though we're still contributing to the wages of some out on loan. There may be future sales as players near the end of their contracts but there will be no urgency about it (as our refusal to sell Klose to Hannover shows) as next year we'll be free from most of these commitments. Rather than a selling club, we'll be more like Southampton, developing future players like Abrahams, Idah and Spyrou to slot in as older players move on. Other young players like Buendia will be bought in at reasonable prices but on the whole, we'll have a sustainable squad going forward. For this, we don't need a new HC off the list of previous failures, but DF or another like him who can develop young players and bring them into the first team on a regular basis like we did in our most successful years back in the early 90s.
