By the book it's quite simply a yellow card. Red - or yellow? #SAFC https://t.co/sTVLh0wfY4 Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
Great character shown by the team. Power didn't have to make the tackle an went in quite hard (phrasing, boom) for me it was a yellow but also think he gave the ref the decision to make, which was daft. Gooch may be carrying a knock as he was almost immobile by the final whistle. His fatigue/possible injury plus having to cover a worse full back than Billy Jones, amazingly. Deprived us of a much needed out ball and Oxford were a decent side they knocked the ball around and used their man advantage well. It's a good point under the circumstances. Players and staff will have plenty of lessons to take from it and we're still unbeaten!
It was the way be done it that made the refs mind up. It was a sliding swipe with force as oppose to a simple trip. I said watching it live it was brain dead and I feel the same way now having seen it again. Good point in the circumstances lets just make sure we don't have the same scenario against Fleetwood.
It's one I think of as an orange card, not quite bad enough for a red but a strong enough yellow that you can't blame the ref for giving it. Ross thought it looked a red at the time but could only see it wasn't after seeing replays. The Oxford manager agreed it wasn't a red but said it's pointless appealing it because the committee are ****ers and he's right about that. We've got McGeough and Mumba to cover so we'll be fine.
Max Power says he is 'devastated' after receiving the first red card of his career against Oxford United.Power was sent off 20 minutes into the game for a challenge on Oxford attacker Marcus Browne. The Black Cats battled back to earn a point and Power has apologised to Sunderland supporters on Twitter. He wrote: "Devastated about today, first time I've been sent off in my career. "Sorry to the players, staff and fans. Well done to the lads for a huge effort second half." Both managers defender the 25-year-old, who has already become an immensely popular figure with fans after an excellent start to his Sunderland career. Jack Ross said: "At the time I thought it may have been a red on my first viewing. "I had the benefit of watching it again, having watched it again I don't think it is [a red]. "Max does go at first to be really cynical but then Max pulls his leg back, I think it is still a caution but not a red card. "I think he gives the referee a decision in that sense. I don't agree with it, but he gave him a decision." Oxford boss Karl Robinson added: "I love Max, he is a great kid and I have known him a long time. "I don't think it was a red. I thought Oviedo should have gone, he volleyed my player. "Baptiste should have been sent off for a second booking but so should Maguire. "He got booked and then made four consecutive fouls. Their manager knows that, that's why he made the sub. "The least sending off happened today, in my view. I feel sorry for Max but you won't get that overturned - not with our FA, they are not very good at it. It is a waste of time and money. "There is no common sense within the disciplinary panel." Ross said the Black Cats would consider whether to appeal in the coming days.
Yellow would have been the right call. If that was a red, then so should have been a couple of others. The ref was not only **** but inconsistent Given the circumstances its a decent point
