Must say, I don’t get either of these. Would rather have Morris than Sears and we are also really short of central defenders - I’m guessing that there’s a recall clause in the loan contract

Somewhere in a parallel universe/alternative fans forum there are no doubt Forest Green and Swindon fans debating why they're taking these inexperienced players from a higher League only to develop them ahead of their own players.
It's how the football world now seems to work, deal with it!

Disappointed in these, I thought they were the two most likely to make an impact on the first team

Valid point. I’d much rather these teenagers get regular first team football in a competitive league than warm the bench or play in the U23 league all season. Downes loan move to Luton was scorned at by a few on here last season, including myself at first, and he’s getting chances in the first team this season. I just hope we have enough central defenders to cope with Woolfy going. He looked decent against Blackburn, but needs developing.

Use other clubs to give our lads experience, use other clubs to help our bench with cover that won't see pitch time....works for me <ok>

I've got to say, Hurst is losing me pretty rapidly. Absolute madness.

Did you see the Blackburn game SD? I'm guessing not.

Not quite sure what you mean by that ^

I've seen every match so far and if you think I'm going to take any notice of the performance from our opening game with a new team and manager then you are sadly mistaken <ok>
On the first day of the season we had a mostly lower league team lead by a lower league manager entering into a Championship season. It will take a while before the players and manager can be considered a Championship team and time is what I am currently willing to give the set up.

Next season (providing we aren't completely hopeless and we need to get rid of Hurst) is when I will be expecting an all round better team with the lads that are out on loan being brought into the first team and seeing us need less loanees from outside.
I hope Paul has a long term plan. He's sent many lads that fans want in the team now out on loan to get them the vital experience of playing in matches that matter so that they are ready for next season. Unlike Mick who I felt only really planned for one season at a time I can get behind this line of thinking from Paul. Won't really be able to tell until next season comes around to see if that was indeed the plan.

I can’t understand why anyone who saw Woolfenden’s performance in that game would think it’s a good idea to loan him out. Based on that hour alone he’s by far the best CB at the club.

Instead we loan in someone else’s inexperienced CB to play. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

And instead of loaning in a goal scorer we have loaned out one of our four options so now we just have Harrison, Jackson and Walters.

If we were really ever going to play two up we wouldn’t be doing that.

This week of transfers has been a disaster for the club and weakened our squad. I think we’re heading for the trapdoor or a new man in the dugout.

I don’t expect a manager to do everything I would do or rate the players the same as I do or play the system I would or buy/sell the players I would................I’m prepared to give Hurst plenty of time to do things his way and not get hung up on every decision....if he ends up failing to succeed then so be it.

As for if these youngsters should be sent on loan or not it’s his call and he has to do what he feels is right for their development.

If you rated a player on one game then Finidi George is our greatest ever player..<laugh>

Weighty, I remember thinking after Finidi's debut we had bought a world class player for the first time since the Dutchmen. After that Burley never really got the best from him, whether that was because of where he was played or other factors.

We don't always agree mate but bang with you here - Woolfenden would have 100% started the game Sunday vs Norwich for me. He'd have had a go in Nsiala's absense to make the position his own. I was very impressed with him vs Blackburn and would like to give the lad a go.

Regards Pennington - I've asked two mates. One, was my best mate at school and a Toffee. I've still got my English book when I sat next to him in class with him waxing lyrical about a certain Wayne Rooney EVERY LESSON when he was a reserve. He told me Connolly would be class for us, He told me Connor Grant was a pile of toss. I trust his judgement. However, all he's told me with pennington - ' Hey mate not good enough for the prem but may be alright for you! '

So I asked my Leeds season ticket mate - they had him on loan last year.

The good news, started games so has experience.... the bad, he played in Leeds SHOCKING second half of the season.

' Hey mate, he wasn't great unfortunately. Pressure got to him, fans got on his back. Alright at times from open play but an absolute liability at set pieces. '

    Uh oh.

We'll see anyway, football, a game of opinions.

That said, IF, for whatever reason Hurst isn't sold on Woolfenden - then he simply does have to go out on loan. I don't want him kicking his feet on the bench and not developing. It will do him the power of good.

As for Morris, assume he's now 4th choice striker - but still rather him come on than Sears uptop - thought he did well v Blackburn. A chance to shine at a league club anyway, make the most of it.

I'm with you on Woolf's performance, Hampy, he did play well and looked like he could handle the Championship.
Looks like Hurst is going with the experience of Chambers next to new boy Nsiala this season. I'd like it to be the Woolf and Toto show next season though and if sending Chris out on loan makes him ready for a full season of Championship matches next year then I'm cool with that. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't prefer it to be those two playing every week now though.
Pennington will not see much of the pitch once Toto is back so better him on the bench than Chris if that's the way Hurst wants it right now. These loans can be recalled in January if Paul wants to make a change to his backline.

I thought Ward was going to do well for us when he arrived but I quickly changed my mind on that one!

Why would Everton loan us this lad just to sit on the bench? I would imagine he will be in the side..

I'll be honest with you, I don't think that much thought has gone into it - I think after the poor start Hurst has been given some funds for loan wages and panicked and taken what's available.

Then, he's thought ****, not everyone can play, I'd better get a few out on loan.

To be fair he is 23 and has championship experience so I think he will play.

It is easy to draw conclusions from one snapshot. If you took his performance from the pre season match against West Ham you would have had a different viewpoint I would imagine. He struggled at times in that match, which is why at 19 years old and lacking experience the correct level for him is probably L1 or L2 as he would be great one week, but cost us points the next.. He needs to iron out the kinks elsewhere and those at the club (or at least those who make the decisions) seem to have that opinion.

He'll come in and be guaranteed 3 games (if fit) given Nsiala's suspension.. But after that we have 3 senior centre backs (for now) competing for 2 positions and I expect Hurst will pick who he thinks is the best option and given the nature of the position, there will undoubtedly be the odd suspension/knock in the next couple of months so expect all 3 will have their fair share of minutes on the pitch
