For me, this shows that Hughes got the starting XI right. And the bench wrong. Whilst I have been very critical of Austin in the past few minutes, I would still have him on the bench all day long - because if we need a goal, he's a perfect man to turn to. But when we don't need a goal (other than it being nice to get another), Charlie shouldn't be going anywhere near the pitch. He's just not mobile or fit enough. But without Gabbi, Armstrong or Gallagher on the bench, we didn't really have much option other than Charlie once Long got injured. People can criticise Long all they want, and I do completely get that. But, at least until January, our squad is our squad. We have to work with what we've got. And Long offers us movement, energy, and an out ball.

Completely agree with this. I really don’t like having to play long, but using him as a foil for Ings is clearly the best option atm. I would still like to see gallagher given a chance in the PL though. Even if it’s the last 15-20 mins. If only for his speed and size. Austin looks finished really. Not sure how a pl player can be so slow after a full preseason.
Really good win, caught Palace at the right time. Almost threw it away too but probably deserved it. Great first hour but once Long went off we struggled to retain the ball and our defence drops terrifyingly deep :S.
