Has Luke Shaw suddenly turned it around? Not good enough a few months ago. Played three games and they've lost two of them. Bollocks.
The two that have dropped out in defence are Young and Jones, so anyone they bring in is fine with me.
This is just a competition replacing friendlies, there's still normal qualification for the Euros. Though how teams perform in this will decide seedings for the qualifying.
So how does this Nations League ****e work then? Is it like the Intercities Fairs Cup? Only with countries that are Nations rather than teams representing Cities that hold fairs. (Always felt that us and Forest were well snubbed here). Or like the Watney Cup? For high scoring nations only regardless of ability. Or the Anglo-Italian Cup? Only with Nations that aren’t necessarily us or Italy. Or the Associate Members Cup? Only with full members instead. Whatever, I’m sure it’ll last cos, in football, bizarre pointless competitions never fail.
Squad looks good to me. Shaw and Gomez were the obvious inclusions. I just think it's nice that for once we actually have a squad to build on after a tournament, rather than the usual bi-annual full rebuild of the whole thing. For the first time since the Sven days, we have a system and most of the players are established in their roles.
Following the rebirth of international football, I look forward to the competition. Hate friendlies and think this will become fairly competitive against top rank competition. The group winners go into the SF later in season. Bottom country gets relegated to Div 2. Cool. Should actually be quite tough to win. I think we'll do Croatia.
There is an explanation in uefa’s Website on how this competition works but I got a headache half way through. Basically it seems to be a second chance for big nations that have been cr*p in qualifying to get a back door entry to the euros. Although I’m not convinced by the format, I think giving games that were previously pointless friendlies a competitive element is good. As for the squad, glad that Lallana got in. He has always played better for England than he has for his clubs. I thought we could have done with him at the World Cup in some games.
Ridiculous selection, appears Southgate is more interested in who people play for rather than what they have actually done and can bring to the team. Rose, welbeck, Delph, twatbeard, loftus cheek, Rashford shouldn't be anywhere near it. Where's the like of Wilson, Maddison, Sancho etc...
