Read an interesting article about his fitness regime at the weekend, obviously serious about keeping playing.
Could be the person to get us organised at set pieces??
I know he wasn't the most popular amongst some here (Shandypants springs to mind!)

Well we certainly cannot play him with Chambers, milk would turn quicker than the two of them at CB.

Smacks of desperation to say the least this.

Underrated by many first time around, but aged 38, surely would be incredibly slow.

I worry we'd become good at defending set pieces, but far too open in general play.

Al, I actually rated him here but just think at 38.....may be a step too far.
Saying that....mogga was no spring chicken!

Me too Spanish thought he was an excellent CB, one of our best the past 20 years ( probably not saying much )

He should be able to do a job for us in the short term, we are a mess at set pieces so he should be able to restore order and Nsialas out for September, desperation possibly, but I don't have a problem with this.

    Christ alive get a grip.

Short term measure - I'm not thrilled either, but reads the game very well.

Depends how slow he is - he was never quick and aged 38, he's going to be slower.

You CANNOT play both him and Chambers together though, we'd be far too slow if that was the case. Nsiela will be playing. Chambers has been poor this season, he could be the one looking over his shoulder.

Manager out......... jesus wept. Five games in.

We used to play Mowbray and Venus together they weren't the quickest.

He's the best CB we had in years at the end of his spell anyway. Wasn't the quickest anyway. Speed isn't everything.

We need some experience to add to our young inexperienced team. Players like Walters and McAuley fit that bill for me

Don’t really think we played Mogga and Venus as a pair. It was normally 3 at the back with mcgreal being the 3rd (also had Wayne brown at the time), however, I don’t think playing 3 at the back with our current players would be the worst idea

Not overly sure what to make of this one, not as exciting as the Walters move. We need cover at centre back, so that’s what I hope he there’s for. Undoubtedly got the experience and leadership skills Hurst feels is lacking from the squad. Could be worth his weekly wage just for his knowledge and presence in training and in the dressing room. He started shakily here but grew into the role and I did rate him as a centre-back. Aside from last season, he was mostly a first team regular in the Premier League for West Brom, so arguably not the disastrous move some people are making it out to be. Definitely lacks pace at his age and has got the turning articulation of a lorry, but could be a solid stand in for Chambers.

I certainly didn’t have the “new era” down as a nostalgia trip! Can’t tell if they’re inspired, canny signings or a desperate calling around the 2008/09 Ipswich Town squad to see who’s available.
