I'm all for safe standing and really want to see it come in sooner rather than later, its standing up in front of people who are sitting that I've no time for whatsoever. I used to sit/stand 5 rows from the back in the old Leazes L7 and would stand most games, but if someone behind me asked me to sit I always would. Good manners frankly.

If one person wants to sit in a massive section of people, I think that person is being rather fussy. It has to work both ways I feel. If a majority want to stand, why shouldn't they? We get told to sit if a majority want to sit. As long as it isn't an old person behind you, then I would feel no guilt by standing in front of them if they were perfectly capable of standing themselves.

Because that person has paid a great deal of money to be able to sit and watch a football match. If stands were still an option obviously this would solve the matter, but for the time being I don't think a little respect is out of the question, particularly since in this case it was an 80 year old woman. Protest against Ashley all you like but being a dick to fellow fans is out of order.

Fair enough, can't say I've picked up on it, whilst at away games. Remember once nearly getting kicked out at Derby for standing missed a goal because a copper was in the way. To make matters worse we were 1-0 down.

Surely this must be a golden opportunity for fans to really let the management know our feelings. If they plan to ban those who stand then can we not organiase a mass all match stand up? What they gonna do? Ban everybody and have an empty ground? That would hit him in the pocket!

At the home game against Birmingham last year, I was sitting in the sir john hall corner (below L7). There was this bloke behind me, he wasnt old and seemed perfectly capable of standing. Well, I sat for most of the match taking into the account people behind me.

One moment during the match we were on goal, the person in front of me jumped up in anticipation which obviously meant I had to rise up as well to see what was going on, the moment my backside left the seat the man behind me grabbed my hood and pulled me down. Because he was in the seat behind me and therefore slightly higher, he could see above the guy who was standing in front of me whilst I was sat in my chair oblivious to what was happening.

The chance went and I didn't want to cause a ruckus so I didn't say anything but I could of missed a goal if the ball went in just because of one lazy arse who can find the energy to yank me down by the back of my jacket but cant stand up for a few seconds.

It's moments like that which really piss me off.

How was the 80 year old woman expected to know her (regular?) seat was suddenly part of a new signing section?

That I'll agree with, frankly if you aren't well enough to rise for chances and goals you should be turning up in a wheelchair anyway!

    Don't go then. Fairweather nonsense.

Anyone remember that 90 odd year old who use to stand for full games a few years ago? He had been going to matches since Hughie Gallacher was playing.

Most likely dead now the poor sod.

In the Keegan years? I remember him but I don't remember him standing all game, he always looked pretty slumped to me!

I know who you're talking about but not him.

On the subject of him, he was pretty active for his age even though he didn't stand as much..

I'll continue going in the hope that something changes and we'll be allowed to back our team the way we used to!

To be fair, it was always risky moving to the corner anyway. The gallowgate upper tier was empty, more empty than the corner, that's where we should have went. Full blocks only had about 50 people in them.

No chance of a mid-season mass move? No doubt there'll be admin costs?
