Remember those times Mig got the ball and kicked it out of play and put us immeditently under pressure again? Why does he have to get away with it? You’re talking like he’s lucky?! Are we saying that Salah is getting away with it when he puts it in the net? That Robbo gets away with it when he puts in good crosses. Just cos historically keepers pick the ball up and boot it 70 yards away from goal and you play from the knock down doesn’t mean that’s right. Times are changing and pep started showing the world that a keeper is vital to a certain style and has won trophies with it every where. There’s a reason many say neuer is best keeper, and it’s not just his shot saving
We relinquish control when we hoof it - which then puts us under pressure. It’s lften why we can’t pass teams to death because some of our midfielders just want to launch without assessing options. I think some fans are not used to having proper ball players in the team after such a long time. We’ve become used to dross like Lucas, Hendo, Skrtel, Lovren who **** themselves when under pressure. Now we have players that are confident in themselves. Again, I refer to Keita’s turn against Palace. That would be deemed as an unnecessary move but it should have led to a goal. Stemming from being confident when under pressure.
Trent is another example - this kid has big bollocks on the ball. He played a superb volleyed pass to Salah. That could have easily been cut out and left us open on the counter. We shouldn’t be suppressing their ability and confidence. We should embrace it. The Keita and Alisson examples are probably on the extreme end of the spectrum but the same applies to the lesser incidents - a simple head up / drop of the shoulder / shimmy in a tight area can have a huge impact in opening up space and dragging players out of position. This is what the best players in the world do.
I wouldn’t say people aren’t used to it. Most on here would have grown up with the best lfc teams which prob piss over even this one. I think just historically since back pass rule, keepers have always just been told to get it clear and get the ball up top and play from there. I think its it’s similar to situation in youth football where I was always taught as a defender to just whack it clear and don’t try play out under pressure because you might concede possession and concede. That was only 15 years ago and we all look back now and say that we shouldn’t worry about kids conceding goals etc because you need to develop their ability on the ball. Well I think the same thing is now happening with keepers. People are seeing keepers playing football and over next 20 years kids in youth football are going to want to do the same and it’ll work it’s way into pro football in a more mainstream way. Its just the progression of the game. What was 442 big man little man, became 433 with 2 wide forwards etc...
Yeah it wasn’t a dig at the older members on here. It was aimed at everyone - because we’ve all been through the **** times in recent history. It’s the first time since Rafa where we have confident ball players throughout the team (not including 13/14 because that team was all about the attack). We’ve had people bugging up Lovren and Skrtel as if they’re prime Beckenbauer, but VVD came in and showed everyone what a quality defender looks like. Keita and Fabinho will slowly show that in midfield, whilst the media cream themselves over Henderson. Lallana was one of the best English attackers ... then came Mane, Firmino and Salah. It’s all relative. We now have players who are the benchmark. And we’re getting stronger and stronger because of it.
Put it in the stand. Really..there is zero comparison with chipping a ball over a forwards head as last man hoping to paly a pass 5 yards after and taa playing a lovely pass to the left wing to start and attack. Let's get real here. Let's stop pretending that its hoof or never hoof. This is about professionalism and seeing the big picture. If alisson has spotted a pass as that ball was played then realised it was a short back pass, chippped the forward then played a ball into a channel to a salah to go attack we would all beinawe. He didnt. He took a huge risk without any real plan what to do. That's the reality. As I said, when theres nothing on and no reward row z allows your team reform its shape and go again. Vvd understands this. He also showed in preseason he deeply appreciates alisson ability to pick a pass. Klopp called it clearly. Not too cool. So let's get over it and stop defending the guy like he needs to be defended. He's not a wall flower ,like karius who will start blubbering at the first mistake. I fully expect klopp to have told him to stop ****ing about whenhesnot sure whats around him. With respect to Murray, he's slow..he almost got to alisson. Best of luck trying that turn v a forward with pace and desire. Need to be aware of where the opponent is to pull thatshit off.
Rafa... carragher and hyppia... no thry never cleared it did they ...ermmmm... Some of use remember Alan Hanson or Glenn hysen, or Nicol.... or lawrenson....so no it's not "You young lads" who know how to play real football now all of a sudden. Paulo maldiniwould even Put it in row z on occasion you know...
I love the modern way and I love Alisson making the striker look a mug but there is still times when you should clear your lines. Alisson will **** up sooner rather than later because he's doing every time making him predictable and the media will **** all over him like sharks to blood!
Thing is, at that time that’s clearly what he thought was best and it worked out. Yes it’s rare but say he’d just gone to hoof it long or out and he’d hit knockaert and rebounded in or square for a team mate for an open goal we’ve had been well pissed off. Same if he’s scuffed one to an opponent like ederson did, we’d ask why he wasn’t more composed. At that moment, he saw his best option was to just chip it up and keep possession as he was miles out of his goal. Worked fine. I’m sure they’ll be a time when he whacks it out of play and he’ll prob think that’s the best solution at that moment.
let me put it this way. lfc need 90 points this year somehow. that is 30 wins out of 38. We have never been near it. The level of perfection required to deliver 90 points is huge. if everyone did what klopp calls not very cool I doubt we will win many more games.but we could lose.more. my point is still this... if he was really aware of the situation around him and knew exactly what's what then.murray would not have caught him to foul.him would he. as I said if he'd spotted a great opportunity the n beat the player like he did and then made that pass the world.would be worshipping at his feet. he knocked it 5 yards to vvd so it was just a click bait clip for sky that bbc didn t even bother showing on MOTD. we need perfection not show boating.
