Fulham "gazumped" Newcastle

Just recieved a text from NUFC:

Fulham "gazumped" Newcastle on Wednesday to complete the signing of FC Twente forward Bryan Ruiz, 26 on a four year deal believed to be around £10.6m.

Hardly gazumped!

Still don't understand why we bid for a player who has already agreed terms and medical!

We had ages to get another striker in. The mind really boggles.

Does anyone know if we can get a loan player in after the window closes???
Or are we left with Ameobi, Lovenkrands, Best and Ba?

Im pleased with are midfield, defence and goalkeepers. Just that top quality striker could be the difference between top half and bottom half of the table.

 

We can only pick up free transfers as the loan window also closes at the end of the transfer window for top tier clubs.

Don't forget Ben Arfa coming back and playing off the striker as well as the likes of Sammy coming through.

 

Obertan can be pushed into an advanced role as well.

 

Neither will be an actual 15 goal + striker though. I like Best, but I'm scared of having to rely on him and Ba.

 

Even if they chip in with 8 goals a piece; that's a good tally.

Look how many players finished with 15+ last season? 5.

Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie, Bent and Odemwingie

 

That's what i really wanted a 15 goal a season striker!

Oh well time to get behind the lads and hope they continue their good form.

 

I honestly don't think Best get's enough credit, he started to come into his own the end of last season then got injured.

He showed a good pouchers skill for his first against Fulham and his second was a great bit of skill. He has a good record with us so far.

Ba - not sure about him but looked greatly improved against Fulham.

Rather have these pair in than Shola and Ranger!!!!

I can tell you why we 'bid' for a player who had already had a medical and agreed personal terms, because then the fat man and Lambiarse can say that they 'tried' to get a striker in when really they had no intention of getting him whatsoever. Probably offered 2 million for him.

I think we'll be fine, didnt Pardew mention something about leaving some cash spare for the January window for emergency signings and in case of injuries, we could then strengthen if needed?...

Best will step up this season like he did last season, he scored 2 goals against a stong Fulham defence!

 

I said on another thread, Ruiz, Roux, Maiga and Cisse wouldn't have just walked into our squad and scored 20 goals. They certainly seem better than what we have now, but people are kidding themselves if they thought we'd just pick up a couple of world class strikers and they'd be smacking the goals in for fun. Like OT said, there are only a few players who scored more than 15 last season, and I'm not sure any of our targets are in quite the same league as the likes of Tevez, Van Persie, Berbatov and Bent yet.

If we had signed Ruiz and he didn't score for a few games, people would be whinging their tits off that we'd spent £10m on him.

 

Maybe we had a lucky escape with Ruiz. Few tweets from Tor-Kristian Karlsen, who if if anyone has him on twitter will know he is a very respected scout, and gives a good lowdown on a number of players. Here's what he has tweeted about Ruiz.
