But then you could say same for way city play out from back. Is it a mistake that they’ve recovered from and been lucky? Or is a style to play that way and the risk of getting caught once in 20/30 worth it for th reward you get by keeping the ball and not just hoofing it out of play

 

I think there's a big difference between trying to build from the back and a keeper getting caught in possession.
VvD knows that you just have to hoof it occasionally, we've seen him do it several times when someone else might just try to be clever and get caught out.
I'm not having a go at Alisson, I'm just saying that we'll have to see more of him to see if his judgement is sound. When he gets it right plenty will say he's a star - but let's see how they react if he gets it wrong and it costs us points.

 

I didn't see the game so listened on R5 and the impression i got was pretty good 1st half but a bit meh second. From the commentary sounded like Gini was the stand out player and the front 3 still not fully clicking .
Obviously it turns out it doesn't matter if the front 3 don't recapture last seasons form since we are now masters of the art of defending

 

midfield went to ****. not finding passes. also forwards constantly giving it away or snatching at chances and not letting the position develop.

first half was piss easy.

Passing wasn't up to our usual standard from the off. I think Mané misplaced about 3 in the first 10 minutes.

 

That is going to be more than invisible.

Our passing has been shocking all 3 games.

 

I only called 30+ clean sheets in the PL

Mignolet started his first season with us with 3 clean sheets in a row.

I just want to point out one moment on Becker.

Well first he took it short and ref made them retake it was it didn't go out of pen area and Brighton pushed up. He waved everyone forward then didn't kick it out, rather he stroked a pass to the right back that dropped right on his toe.

I think that sums the guy up.

 

So..... Studs up tackle into Milner's ankle is now just a yellow.

Brighton lucky to have 11 on the pitch by the end.

 

Only thing frustrating about this game was trying to force the issue when we were 1 nil up. All that was required was simple passing knowing we are a goal up. Brighton needed the next goal more than we did.
All we needed to do is pass it around and dare them to come of their defensive shape. Unfortunately all I saw was a team trying too hard to get a second goal.

That said, 3 points and top of the league bitches!!!! Not much to complain about result wise. Last season we were even more shakey and came through with some brilliant performances so nothing to worry about for now other than Beckers cockiness
