Well lads, here we are again at the close of another transfer window and once again its Christmas without the shiny new BMX we'd been pointing at for the past 7 months...Same old, same old I guess, but today feels a bit different. I don't have that anger I used to. I see fans proclaiming their hatred for Ashley, Llambiass and in some cases Pardew. Fans nailing their colours to the colourless mast - stating they now have no team, and will attend no matches. I see this, but I just can't feel the same.

Today I feel like Newcastle is a girlfriend who's drunken antics have continued for a few too many years and I'm still waiting for her to grow up. Back in the Championship season I was proud, 'I'm with Newcastle and I couldn't give a **** who knows it', yeah she's unfashionable, she's brash, loud and a little obnoxious, she's a little too 'in your face' to be invited to the dinner tables of Top-half premiership clubs but that's what I loved about it all!

Last season, or at least, until Hughton's sacking, Newcastle went T-Total, we were sensible, we were making well-informed, conscientious decisions which benefited both our short and long term future. Then with Hughton's sacking and Carroll's sale, Newcastle fell off the wagon and descended into the dizzy haze of drunken mis-management again...

We, like the put-upon partners in so many relationships, keep trying to convince ourselves that it'll change, that Newcastle will change. That one day, one day soon, we'll get back to where we were when so many fell in love with our club. When Newcastle was the most attractive, exciting and charismatic team in England (if not the world).

This transfer window feels like the numb ache of a morning after the night before. One where Newcastle had promised so much, like a girlfriend who spent that little bit longer getting ready so as to step out on your arm, making you stand taller and walk a little stronger than usual, promising to only have a drink or 2 and stay sober, only to duck behind a shady corner of 'attempted bids' in order to down a bottle of 20-20 and emerge the same old drunken slag she's been since the sacking of Sir Bobby, swearing to you and the whole world that 'I tried my best,' and slamming us with the statement that 'you just don't understand'...

We, as fans, are simply the much maligned boyfriend of a girl who was and could still be amazing, but, for one reason or another, keeps throwing it all back in our faces. And here we are, picking up the pieces of yet another roller-coaster window, bringing the metaphorical mug of tea and 2 ibuprofen in so that Newcastle, as a fan-base can recover, and we can do it all over again. I won't be able to drop this status, I can just shrug away the previous 20 years of this love-affair. I've invested too much time, effort and money into this club to throw it all away, but, in the same breath, I don't see the point in trying to enforce change...I'll continue, as we all will, to simply be there with hope, however naive, that one day soon, Newcastle will become the club we know it can be!

(cue emotional music and fade to black!)

I just dont know if I trust the whore any more. She doesn't feel like my girlfriend, she joined the MA cult and has changed! I am going to have to think about it some more, I dont want to keep sleeping with her because it is the 'done thing', when clearly she doesn't care anymore. I waited since January for a BJ, she promised me one, at 8pm yesterday she faked one, and I know at the first chance she'll cheat again!

Only drinking 20-20 as the unscrupulous owner and his barman henchman tried to add an extra £2.50 to the listed price of the Cognac .. which would have left her feeling classy and upmarket instead of downtrodden and a beaten woman ...

    [excellently written though <ok>]

Great article. Sums it up perfectly. No matter how much stress, and upset she causes. You can never get rid of Newcastle United.

And, in a sense. That makes me so proud to be a Newcastle supporter. Because, no matter what comes our way. We stick by her. Alot of 'fans' abandon teams in their hours of despair.

Newcastle United. Will Never Be Defeated!

I think it's pretty clear you've suffered at the hands of a drunken ex-girlfriend - you have my sympathy.

The 'you don't understand' line is the one that resonates.

Dont worry there will be more lies and false promises in the January window when we lose players to the African cup.

    Brilliant article!

Pretty much sums up how i feel about the club. We'll love it and stick with it through thick and thin, why? because we all made a commitment when we first walked up those St James steps.
