Sadly, according to Steve Mc, they can: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45178044 But McClaren hopes the expected arrival of loan signings in the coming days will improve results. "Believe me, if the owners could spend money they would," he added. "But the restrictions are the restrictions." "We're in the loan market and free market and the owners are very supportive of that. "We've been working behind the scenes to bring signings in and we expect one or two before Saturday. I believe if we get the right players in we'll be OK."
I have sobered up from last night and still buzzing. The negatives first. The defence are getting abuse as they could not cope with the big lad up top, the benefit is I doubt the two centre backs will come up against many more teams who will put as many balls into the box as they did. Irvine lost his man for the first goal, but Burke gave away a corner due to an error. He let the ball bounce and couldn't clear it. He should have whacked it out of touch before that for a throw in. They are clearly new and need time to settle, as individuals I don't think they are bad players but they need a battler to give them more protection. I though Batty was excellent and Henrikson played well but they are both quite attacking CM's. The positives however far outweigh the negatives. Going forward we created a lot of chances, second half things just didn't fall at times otherwise we could have scored 4 or 5. I think Bowen looked excellent on the counter in the second half. Campbell shows that he still has that good finish in him. Irvine is a class act and I hope we play him high up the pitch and not alongside Henrikson like we tried last year. Evandro looks a class act, we just need to get him playing more games as he looks a little off the pace. Similarly Evandro needs to play off a striker and not be expected to defend as clearly he can't. Batty also looks like he was made to play at this level, very smart player, some great cross field balls. I am really excited by him. Keane came on and looked good to me, again I have been a critic of his but he played well. Plenty of things we can still work on as a team but based on that I would have thought there are 3 worse teams than us.
While I do acknowledge Henriksen has improved from a very low base in his first season here, this aspect of his play is still very very poor. And then as usual he turned round and pointed at others as if to say how did that happen? He just doesn't take enough responsibility and get out of jogging mode to do the job properly defensively.
Didn’t check, just saw the match highlights had been uploaded. Logic suggested they’d be together. Adkins is growing on me. Shame he’s working for a pair of ****s. The McDonald conundrum is an odd one. Why sign players the manager clearly doesn’t rate? We end up wasting salary budget on a player that has now been dropped completely from the squad by the manager.
He hasn't adapted. Also he's playing for a much bigger club. Us older ones forget but if you are in your 20's we have spent a lot of time in the Prem etc Big step up.
Nige wanted him and saw he. Had potential. He just isn't physical enough a the moment. Needs to hit the gym and toughen up.
