Graham Potter is “optimistic” that Swansea City will get some business done before the loan window closes at the end of the month. The Swans boss has revealed that following the recent departures of Federico Fernandez and Jordi Amat, central defence is one of the areas he is looking to strengthen. The Swans said goodbye to a host of senior players during the summer transfer window, and Potter feels there is a need to bring some new faces in. “We are working all the time,” he said. “The wheels are turning – that’s part of our job and we will keep working. “I am optimistic. I am aware that we could do with strengthening the group in terms of numbers and also to help us be better. We know we need to improve.“I am focusing on the matches but at the same time we will keep working up until August 31.” Academy product Joe Rodon has started the Swans’ last two games at centre-back – and impressed – following the exits of Fernandez and Amat.Alfie Mawson and Kyle Bartley also exited the Liberty this summer, and Potter acknowledges that the Swans are a little light in the heart of defence. “It’s fair to say we would like a centre-back because of the numbers in our group,” he added. “We have got Joe and Mike (van der Hoorn) who have done really well together in the last two games, which has been a positive for us. “But clearly when you look at the numbers, it’s an area we could do with strengthening.“Our squad is not the most balanced at the moment and we could do with adjusting some areas. Centre-back is an example of that, while we are a bit top heavy in some other positions.” Swans Website
I hope not, that will be the Joe Allen transfer all over again, makes my blood boil, these boardroom nuggets................
Not really Dragon....We dont go over our budget anymore and that is the right way to do things now. For all we know his wage demand could be above what we are willing to pay......We cant fail at the first hurdle by breaking our wage policy can we . .I would love to see the club get at least 2 loanees as cover but if we cant then we will have to delve into the U23s and i will be happy with that....
Which current U23's do you think could come in a support the 1st team ? Byers last season looked like he could make the step up but I believe he hasn't been considered so far
