I’m just pleased that we played attacking football. I may actually go to a few games this year. It was just too painful to watch us last season.... I didn’t get a chance to watch the whole game. Do you think JWP will justify his place in the stating line up for Leicester city game on Saturday?
He had the joint best interceptions of anyone on the team, As many blocked shots as anyone on the team. As many tackles as any of our midfielders. As many successful dribbles as any of our midfielders As many shots on target as any of our midfielders. And of course more key passes than the rest of the team combined. So yeah he'll probably be dropped.
i have not watched the / any highlights yet. it normally takes me until about wed / thurs until I can watch these when we lose i dont watch MOTD either when we lose Now when we win - thats another matter... I will watch every higlight / read every match report and generally take a real interest in the premier league but not this day
I thought JWP was one of our best players on Sat. Especially in the first half. He and Cedric did a good job against tough opposition
I like JWP and I think he could get in the england squad Our defence (or lack of) is the problem not JWP
Good post St.B. IMO one of Redmonds biggest failings. Certainly not the only tho & you may be right about positional play being the biggest limiting factor.
It's one game. And one tackle. Care to take a look at his stats last season, or the season before that? This is just silly. Do you want JWP playing defensive midfield? Really? There's pretty much three players for two conceivable spots: Armstrong, Redmond, and JWP. I have to think Armstrong has the attacking mid position nailed down, because otherwise why did we pay to bring him in? Which means it's between JWP and Redmond in a position where defense hardly matters. If you go with a 4-4-2, JWP might be a better choice. If you go 4-4-3 then Redmond. But you guys are really going bizarrely out of your way to try force a player into the lineup who has been barely adequate for four seasons now with little improvement.
Feels like you're going bizarrely out of your way to put down a player who just put in a MotM peformance, this is still the match thread. And yeah, i pretty much disagree with all of that, especially the part about defence not being important for a winger.
JWP is one of our own, and for that reason most Saints fans, myself included, are desperate for him to succeed with us - and not somewhere else. But your assessment is pretty accurate - though “barely adequate” is harsh.
