It's actually quite laughable that someone can get away with such a public attack.

I seen something on the news that because they tied the religious element into the assault charge he either had to be chinned for both or chinned for none? What a farce, the assault was plastered all over the news for a few days and it's unproven <doh> The news guy introduced it as 'A man has been let off with this assault on Celtic manager Neill Lennon' the fella looked like he was going to burst out laughing it is that stupid ffs.

Absolutely the correct decision based on the charge brought.....which begs the question why the charge was brought in the first place.

because a statement was given to the police and evidence given in court that during the attack the accused said " lennon , you fenian bastard ". This was stated by someone from the hearts tech area - the physio Ii think.

Very strange that this was not given greater consideration by the jury.

It was one of the security guards who hears him shout Fenian bastard.

It needed to be an absolute nailed on certainty to prove that aspect of it. I thought it was a mistake to pursue it at the time and I think I commented as much on here.

I can think what I like about it, but it was always going to be hard to prove.

Peter Croy, 61, who was security manager at Hearts' Tynecastle stadium on 11 May, had told the court he heard Wilson say: "Lennon, you Fenian bastard" after pinning him to the ground. we don't know if Lennon, Mjallby or Thommo supported the assertion of Croy. If they didn't, or couldn't support it, then the jury had to consider that as well.

we don't know what the defence put forward to refute the testimony of Croy. That said, we do know that wilson stated that he understood what sectarianism is, and that his own daughter had been baptised a Catholic.
It was always going to be the most difficult aspect of the charge to prove. If there was only one statement to say he did, and he denied it, then there had to be something much more solid to push ahead with the charge. It was a bad decision from the PF's perspective. I said as much at the time.

I am posting the link to what I said at the time the not guilty plea was entered.

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...enters-not-guilty-plea/page2?highlight=guilty

I am not posting it as an "I told you so", but to evidence that a numbskull like me could see it coming, so why couldn't the PF?

I'm still a bit confused over this. According to this link from the thread cited by Rebel above, both charges (assault and breach of the peace) included the charge of "aggravated by religious prejudice."

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-14546458

Now clearly, that part of charge must have been dropped in order for him to be found guilty of breach of the peace so why wasn't it dropped on the assault charge?

In fact, it said on the news yesterday that it was, which seems to suggest the jury found the case "Not Proven" on a simple assault charge.

    I'm confused

The PF, trying to make an example of Wilson, tried to do him on the trumped up charge and it backfired spectacularly.

Wait until the Ayrshire "Bombers" get freed next week due to lack of evidence.

Some absolute ******s of a rabid persuasion were desperate for the sectarian charge to be included. The guy should have got nailed for the assault but to try and get the sectarian breach added on just because it was poor wee innocent Lenny that got attacked was pathetic.

I wonder if the ginger supervictim will be pulled up for his retaliation?

Oh and you can all spare me with this "anti-irish" pish I've been seeing lately. Lennon is British, he's no more Irish than me and I think he's a cunt <ok>

Lack of evidence as in the bombs never existing in the first place?

It was only this bomb carry on and that fud running on the pitch at Swinecastle that saved that wee scrote's job, if those "bombers" really did send the parcels they should be hung for being the most tragic criminals known to man.

Was the same publicity and outcry given to DaMarcus Beasley when his car was blown up by a real bomb?
