My contact in Scotland who really knows his stuff, reckons he is the buy of the season and will be a massive player for us. Our first eleven should see us home, its just getting them on the pitch for a decent run, we can afford an injury or two, but five or six key players missing at the same time will be a problem, still a few really poor players in this squad and we cant carry them all at the same time. Fitness will be the key this season. Nil Desperandum, onwards and upwards.
He seems to be trying too hard to impress and was very lucky to not get a card for his first foul. The one he got booked for could easily have been a straight red. I'm sure he will get better with more games.
Im still good mates with a childhood friend who lives in Edinburgh who is a Hearts season ticket holder and he says the same mate. He had Rangers and a host of Championship teams after him. Chris Sutton even used him to have a dig at us saying he can do better. He'll be our main man when fit. I cant wait to see Maja get help aswell from Wyke and Sinclair. Mcgeady should tear this league apart aswell if and when hes fit.
McGeady and McGuire on the wings will be a dream team in this league. Hell they could probably do it in the prem never mind league one.
Lad I spoke to said he was ‘the second best player in by far the best midfield in scotland’. Says the only concern is he’s a bit lightweight but good on ball, good passer and can play deep or further forward. He was glowing about him, just said McGinn alongside him was outstanding and tips him for a massive move to Prem once he’s shown what he can do at Villa
Maguire is a very good player, I've been really impressed with him. Seems to have a good footballing brain. Unimpressed with his set-pieces though, he rarely beats the first man.
You need to check the rules Gary - can’t be off on a goal kick or throw-in. Only if another of your team touches the ball before it gets to you which is then not direct from the kick itself. Welcome by the way.
Thought we gave a decent account of ourselves with no real threat up front which we knew anyhow. Couple of soft goals but overall, OK.
We've conceded four goals this season, a penalty , Ozturks error and two from corners. If we can sort out the corners and stop individual errors,(I know easier said than done) as we haven't really been exposed in open play then all should be well. Get them on the training ground Jack and sort out the corners routine. Plenty more to come from this squad.
As you can't be offside from a goal kick why don't teams goal hang and kick it long especially if there is a strong wind?
Actually something I've said to the kids I used to coach - the forward is my son and he's 5' 10" at 13 - the keeper has a hell of a kick on him of the floor and my lad stands 20 yards ahead of the last defender every time - amount of times I've had to prove to the referee that the rule states that is crazy!
If there's a strong wind the forwards will be three quarters of the way up the pitch, anyway. IF they win the ball and flick it on it's probably going to run through to the keeper. Forwards are generally shorter than defenders and outnumbered two to one, also take into account that not every keeper can ping the ball like Jordan Pickford and that these are professional footballers you are talking about then you can see why that tactic of 'goal hanging' wouldn't work.
