not decrying the post/table at all...…….. but ………….. STATS they are a reflection of the past and as such are a guide in a lot of cases to the present and the future . IF and I rarely use this word, if it was a level playing field, and I don't mean the pitch!!!! it would be comparable to adjudge past managers performances. when they score championship diving / gymnastics etc etc etc etc they smooth out the marks by eliminating the highest and lowest mark, you cant do that with managers as there is to many mitigating factors. table only shows "league" no account for injuries no account on quality of division [ don't know if there could ever be a way to determine this, as each year opinions vary} fixture placings games at start of reign / end of reign [ injury hit squad or poor squad from last manager, or different styles ] finance tree [ buy sell on low budget ----- buy sell with windfall budget eg Kodija ---- gets the ball rolling for better deals etc] weather/ fixture pile ups disruptive player (s) these are just a few things that have an effect. more to the point in my book is how many games lost points per game [ relative to that season in the league and v top 12 teams ]and GD I note of 13 promotions? only 2 managers have managed 2 ............COOPER and RAISBECK since Fred Ford 1960 LEE has gained 50.31% of points available sc … 55.75% [ but 99? in league 1 promo ] = champs etc = 45.23% from 70 games Danny w … 55.49% JOHN W ...52.77 terry c ….51.49% LEE … 50.31% GJ …..49.79 % [ points in lge 1 ] tinman ...48.08 Osman ...43.47 AD … 42.55 joe j ..41.79 millen ...38.59 sod …. 34 .84 DI ……. 34.39 THAT MAKES LEE IN TOP 10 BEST points grabbers since 1967 out of 24 non care manager appointments [ not worked them all out ] allowances not made for points gained in a lower /lower leagues/ prem
Lot of work there John, I have one more contribution on stats to give and that is the managers who have gained and achieved honours for our club as per the link. please log in to view this image Steve Cotterill - 1 Gary Johnson - 1 John Ward - 1 Joe Jordan - 1 Terry Cooper - 1 Alan Dicks - 1 Fred Ford - 1 Pat Beasley - 1 Alan Raisbeck - 2 Henry ' Harry ' Thickett -1 A total of 11 honour awards to 10 managers in our history, hard to come by.
I am assuming that an honour is awarded to a manager that actually gets the club promoted, hence Terry Cooper 2, Steve Cotterill 1, Gary Johnson 1, Joe Jordan 1,Alan Dicks 1 etc, etc. Anglo Scottish Cup, League Cup, Welsh Cup and any Paint Pot Cups were regarded as a great achievment but not an honour, I also pointed out that I was basing this information on the link provided. http://www.managerstats.co.uk/clubs/bristol-city/
I don't think LJ is an amazing manager, I think we could get better, but it really irks me when some of the criticism on here is complete and utter nonsense. By all means criticise the guy, I do myself. But some of the **** he gets blamed for in here is ridiculous.
"Lies, damn lies, and statistics.” ... Make of it all what you will!! That's why I hate these sort of things - people do their own take on them!
OK I've changed it to one, if you are correct the link got it wrong, I ain't got the time to check it as I'm down in the wilds of Cornwall...
Plus we didn’t get promoted with Danny Wilson. @johngalleyfan2 can you write to the people on that link and ask for clarification please?
Ok I have now corrected the honour roll, I thank everyone for the interest being shown and I do agree you should only get what you deserve.
Wiz, I'll bet you wonder why you try so hard to keep this site afloat. Chill and enjoy Cornwall mate.
Cheers mate, it's a love I share in common with our fellow Bristol City fans Rp as corny as it sounds, they can just keep coming as far as I'm concerned.
Ah the two love birds, Wiz only put this thread up to show that LJ hasn't won anything yet, apart from AD i wonder how all those other managers would have faired trying to get us to the top flight in English football, not as close as GJ i wouldn't think. Now wait for Rp to come back with all the millions LJ has had, blah blah blah.
Strange thing for someone to say seeing you don't even know me, that's something a little boy would say, sorry if you agree with everything that Wiz say's, but i'm sure he can speak for himself, but if he want's you and RP to stick up for him so be it, I find it quite hilarious myself.
I just like Cotts to get the full credit he deserves. If I could have 10 seasons in league 1 of what he gave us over 20 seasons mid table in championship then I would take Cotts. Just wish he moved from his 3-5-2 formation in championship.
didn't really float my boat but agree had he changed he may still have been here and LEE WOULD HAVE BEEN A CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER WITH BARNSLEY .. a few places below us!
I think he managed to get a momentum going with the players he had...had decent players too...but apart from that one season for us, he's not really done much with any other club...which makes me wonder if he was all that.. wouldn't change or adapt formations, bit of a one trick pony.. As for success in lower leagues compared to what we're in now......I don't often find myself disagreeing with your comments.....but we are miles apart on this one!!
I usually give it 10-12 games like you say to comment....but don't like the young man to get slaughtered for being competitive in a very strong division, especially after a couple of games!! Of course, I know how it works.....go on a good run and the haters are nowhere to be seen ...a few defeats and it all out attack !!
