Highly-rated Bristol City defender has rejected Aston Villa and is set to sign for Fulham. Highly-rated Bristol City defender Joe Bryan has rejected Aston Villa and is set to sign for Fulham, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke. Joe Bryan has walked out on a move to Aston Villa and is set to join Premiership side Fulham. Aston Villa had beaten Newcastle United, Wolves and Derby County to sign highly-rated defender Joe Bryan from Bristol City and would have been a massive coup for Aston Villa, but Fulham have stolen him from them. The deal Aston Villa agreed was £4million but would rise to £6million, but have struggled to agree personal terms with Fulham pouncing. Fulham trying to sign the defender could be used as a smokescreen with Fulham instead choosing to pursue higher priority targets such as Matt Targett of Southampton, should they become available. It looks like Bryan’s future will not be resolved until the final hours of the window and a huge day lies in wait for the soon-to-be former Robin. About Joe Bryan – The left-back is a Bristol City academy product who suffered a leg break during the 2010/11 season. After a multiple of impressive performances for the first team in 2014/15, Bryan was named in the PFA League One Team of the Season and earned himself a new deal until 2019. Bryan continued his excellent displays a tier up and was awarded with the club’s Young Player of the Year award for a second year running in 2015/16. The versatile defender has proved useful in a number of positions but is now featuring most often as a left-back. http://the72.co.uk/113221/highly-rated-bristol-city-defender-rejected-aston-villa-set-sign-fulham/
Premier v Championship, no comparison, go for it Joe Bryan and bloody good luck to you, one of our own.
Alan Nixon says Fulham it is announced tomorrow.Best deal for Joe and City. Prem club as well. We need to spend this transfer money on a goalkeeper central midfield enforcer, left back, and striker.
Does this mean that Fulham will now sell Sessongon? I rate Joe, but he won’t be 1st pick ahead of Sessongon!
Fulham it is. Good club for Joe I'd say given the location/ease of travelling compared to Villa or Middlesbrough. Good luck to him.
Fulham fan here. I doubt it. Signing Bryan (or another left back) will free up Sessegnon to play in his best position as a wide attacker, where he spent the second half of last season. What kind of full back is Bryan? What are his strengths? How do you think he'll do in the Premier League?
Hi Captain Some of my fellow supporters may disagree with me but in my opinion on his day Bryan is up there with the best in the Championship and could definitely handle the Prem. He’s a left-back who likes getting forward and scores a few goals - look at the highlights of the Man U game to see him at his best. Trouble is that it was probably his last performance at that level for us (or arguably the 2 Man City games). He has been at best ‘average’ since then and to me has looked disinterested. Maybe moving to you will kickstart his desire again. I hope so.
Thanks Redandwhite. His name has been cropping up on our board for some time now and I think most of us are happy that he looks to be coming our way. I think most of us would have preferred the proven fit of Targett, but Bryan sounds like he'll fit our style of play just nicely and is available at a fair price for all concerned (unlike Targett - Southampton are asking a ludicrous £20M!). Good luck for next season. I've always had a soft spot for your lot since I lived in Bristol for a couple of years in the mid 90s and paid semi-regular visits to Ashton Gate.
Bryans strengths are he is genuinely two footed and shoots and crosses off both feet. Has a high technical ability which allows him to join into attacks freely - He has been played in central midfield and not looked out of place. His defending is the poorest part of his game but that is not what Fulham have bought. He is first and foremost a footballer who should fit in easily with Fulhams passing style.
If your intention is to use him as left back he may struggle imo, his strength is more attacking , if used correctly he may flourish as on his day at championship level he is outstanding, I wish Joe and you well for the coming season .
I have been "against" Flint and Joe going especially Joe, I think had ……... [ all 3 reid possibly ] just stayed for 1 more season ...signed slightly modified contracts for 3 years, clause on their value they could leave after season … £6m or what ever, [ plus it would aid enhance transfer fee] ..we would have made the prem... or play off's I think turning down Villa was good... hope it never happens … Fulham I can live with
Decent enough defender but you want him attacking from full back. Could do very very well at Fulham. The less Bristol City passed it and went long Joes contribution was lessened Fulham like to pass it a lot and so does Joe Bryan.

I guess Jay Dasilva from Chelsea on loan is his replacement then, never heard of the guy so we'll see if he's any good
I’d say his ideal position would be similar to the role Rose/Young play for England. He was more effective for us last year when playing at left mid in front of a 4cb back four who’d send flint and sometimes others forward
I can't see much of that money being reinvested in the squad to be honest but at least we raked in some good cash for players that wanted to have a chance elsewhere. I wish them all the best of luck and it now just remains to see how the balance of the squad adjusts to their departures and on the surface the new players will have to really give it show if they want to win over the Ashton Gate regulars and only time will tell if Lee and his cohorts were up to the task. It's very difficult to assess our ability to compete at this early point in the season but let's hope a win at Bolton might make us able to see the woods for the trees.
