We do need to trim the squad due to HG issues and the fact that there are a handful of players who are burning a salary to do diddly squat. Janssen, Edwards and GKN must be sold, enough endless loans, just sell to anyone who bids. Loans for a few youngsters too - Foyth needs to drop down a division to toughen up and Onomah probably needs one more chance out on loan. I'd also loan out Georgiou - again to a Championship side. But if we bring in a good option at CM and retain the core squad? I'd actually be quite happy. - With Toby, our defence would be formidable - easily better than the record-breaking 2016/17 year as Dave is better than Dier imho. - Rose, Lamela, Winks and Wanyama all working towards full fitness. They all contributed very little last year so will be a breath of fresh air to have the back in contention. - Moura is going to tear the league to shreds next season - one to watch out for. I think we'll have a traditionally sluggish start due to moving homes and WC absentees, but will be fine once Winter kicks in. The big question will be - as it always has been - come the second half of the season will we have the depth to compete on 4 fronts and will we have a situation where multiple key players are playing over 55 game seasons.
#thfc need to spend £6,250,000 every hour until the end of the transfer window to use their £150,000,000 war chest in full. Stolen from twitter
On the one hand you want to weaken the squad by sending players out on loan and then you are worried we won't have depth and players will be playing 55 games.
Players like Edwards, GKN and Janssen are clearly not a part of the manager's plans and should therefore be sold as he is unlikely to even play them in LC games. As much as I dislike them, I wouldn't sell Sissoko, Llorente or Aurier for the exact reason you've mentioned: They do have their uses and selling them would leave us extremely thin.
Not happy, but what do people want? Do people think the new stadium is free? It's all expenditure and it's amusing to hear the pundits going on about Spurs spending nothing as if transfer fees are the only expenditure a club has. As if the people controlling Spurs don't spend any money on Spurs. Do they think the stadium is free? Only Wet Spam and Citeh have free stadiums. The fact that Spurs have what appears to be a superb new stadium and the squad we currently have receives far less praise than it should. The fact we have remained competitive while building it is fantastic.
Trophy winners since 2010 Man Utd (5 or 6) Chelsea(7 or 8) Man City(6 or 7) Arsenal(3) Leicester (1) Birmingham(1) Portsmouth(1) Swansea(1) Wigan(1) the first 4 are all able to simply buy who they want and pay whatever wages are required. The last 4 are all ****ed. I simply do not understand the criticism of Levy. We were a basket case of a club...but in the last 15 seasons we have played European football in 14 of them. Success is relative and we, as the 6th richest club in the premier league, have been relatively successful. We would all liked to have won a trophy but we do not have the money to simply buy at the price dictated to us so we haggle. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't...but I post a list of all our transfers since Bale left and our success rate in transfers being successful is well over 50%...that matches other clubs easily. I genuinely do not get the criticism. 4 or 5 clubs are either bankrolled by a sugar daddy or have unmatchable resources...others are risking their future but we are protecting ours, getting a new ground and are still competing. I aint digging at anyone but there needs to be some realism in these discussions imho
I find it amusing listening now to SSN. So many players who were the bee's knees when signed are now on the way out or surplus to requirements at many clubs. Just like we find ourselves with Jansenn, Llorente and GKN. One big difference is we didn't spend big money on those players. Chopping and changing is no guarantee of success . I prefer stability and am happy with what we have. Moura is a new signing as far as I am concerned, and a few promotions from the academy teams are as good as buys from championship teams.
Seriously? Arsenal haven't been able to buy who they want. It's only been the past few seasons that Arsene has squandered their wealth.
They've outspent virtually everyone, barring the two Mancs, yourselves and the Scouse. Their wage bill is much, much higher than anyone else and has been for a long, long time.
No because it means @Spurlock wins Still think we're in for a good surprise. My mind won't change on that until it's 17:01 tomorrow.
And that's when they started winning trophies...that's the point i am making...might not have been clear though.
Question, if Man Utd or Spurs approached one another and said "Martial for Toby, no money involved" what would you say? A mate just asked that on the WhatsApp group. Three have said yes, one has said no, myself and one other said not sure.
Until 2013? You boys were outspending them on transfer fees for yonks. Wages are a different matter but that was Wenger paying the youth in a Corbyn esque way .
