Nope. It’s originally a French word (thought that Jacquard was a decent hint) which is now in common use in English.
That’s the one. Jacquard invented an addition to the loom which was also the first computer- punch hole cards which enabled very complicated patterns to be woven without human help. The weavers didn’t like it and threw their clogs - sabots - into the mechanism. Hence sabotage and saboteur. Jacquards invention was taken by Babbage to make big calculations and ultimately inspired your smartphone. Cool isn’t it?
What do these have in common...? Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin Rock the Casbah by The Clash Bennie & The Jets, Daniel & Rocket Man - all by Elton John and every single song by Rage Against The Machine
Not available on Spotify or something of that ilk. Or the reverse - all have been downloaded /streamed more times than they have been bought on vinyl/CD. Or something. One of the instruments used on each one was the same (not generic, but brand, model etc) Help me I’m floundering
