I would if he started every game....just by having more chances come his way....but he won't. I see him being used sparingly, so expect only 2-3 at the best.

We are banking a lot on vestergaard I think to act as a leader and Marshall that back 3. If he delivers I think we will be much better than last season. We also have plenty of options around him with Bednarek, yosh, Bertrand and hoedt able to play back three and Targett, McQueen, Cedric, reed and Jwp options as wing backs. Gives Hughes the flexibility to change our setup which Is good I think.

Crucially we have to score more than last season and I will be amazed if that doesn’t happen.

I don't understand why you thought my comments were directed at you?..................I was expressing an opinion.........I can assure you if my comments were directed at anyone particular..........they would know about it. Although normally that is not my style. I listen to all opinions and debate them if I have anything to add. Posters are entitled to have negative opinions just the same as positive posters.

I think our best back 3 would be Bednarek, Vestergaard & Yoshida (lcb). I was surprised/impressed to see and hear Bednarek so vocal at the back, definitely has some leadership quality about him and already a better player than Stephens IMO who is a couple of years older. Also wouldn't mind seeing Yoshida/Vestergaard/Bertrand with Targett at LWB.

We should be more of a threat going forward next season, Gabbiadini looks like he'll be more involved this season and I think he'll thrive playing off Austin. I think Gallagher deserves to be ahead of Long in the pecking order too, I think he will be.

He would put out CB to 6, surly you need that many if you are to continue to keep playing with 3. I'm not overly confident in our players either.

Fair enough mate, admittedly I skimmed over it as at work <ok>

I would argue though that we don't have the player that you talk about so we can't really compare Long to them.

Sign another CB, But if not I'd choose this.

    Yoshida Vestergaard Hoedt.

VVDs don’t come along every season. Most of our legendary CBs have shown good defending mixed with either lack of pace, dodgy decision making or poor tackling (see Jo’s, Claus and Jose). The current crop fit right in there

No! Hoedt is my least favourite CB slow and takes horrendous risks playing out.
Need to play either Joshie or Stephens at CB with two others because they have some pace that the other three don't

Our best defences have been down to decent players being well trained, so that they know what to do when one of their number is out of position. Everyone knew what to do under Adkins, Poch and Koeman. Great if one or more are very good, but training can overcome weaknesses. This could be more important than switching between CBs hoping to find a magic combination. Get them all on the same hymn sheet, so that each can step in when needed. And remember that all players are involved in defence.

    Yep.
Like minds as they say; with Bednarek as the option if switching with Maya on the right side of a three due to form, a booking etc. A solid unit that would allow for the two wing-backs to be confident enough to bomb forward regularly.
