My Dad, 2nd from left, with his mates, circa 1936, 20 year old London lads larking about. Dad told me that he was the only one of that group of five lads to make it through WWII. Not sure where that photo is taken, anyone recognize? They used to go over to Ostend for weekend trips on the continent. Dad worked for the British telephone company in London, and was working in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania just prior to outbreak of WWII, always said he was helping those countries setup telephone systems, but always suspected more clandestine stuff and if pressed for more information he would always cite the Official Secrets Act.
As a child I was always fascinated by those Cornish tin mines and in 1986 discovered similar structures on Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. https://www.bareboatsbvi.com/virgin-gorda/copper-mine.php
