If he was on £50k a week this would have been cut by 40% on relegation from the prem, so he was on £30k per week last season. Was this cut again when we got relegated last season? Some were like Rodders. We are not going to get back up to the Prem while he still has a contract with us, so he wont get that £50k again. He is also jeopardising future earnings in the game by not playing football. So he decides that the move is best....
I’m pleased he’s off (fingers crossed) and think it’s really telling that his departure thread goes on for longer than many of the threads for new players we’ve signed. In part due to us not knowing an enormous amount about the new lads but also the strength of feelings about the mercenaries. It seems from the outside (as others have said) that the new breed are proud to be at our club which matters so much to us as fans. I’m unsure about the coming season (think it’ll be harder than we might assume) but if the team plays with pride and passion it’ll do for me FTM
The numbers in my post were plucked out of thin air for argument's sake lol. I get that he may be willing to take a pay cut to try to better his career, I just don't understand how that can be possible from a legal standpoint? He has a legally binding contract entitling im to (e.g.) £50k.. anyone a bit more savvy re contracts able to explain how this might be possible?
Cause when you go on loan, that temporary contract becomes the present playing contract and wages and bonuses are up for negotiation in that contract like any other. We must have told him loan is ok with us but we won't be supplementing it and he must have said ok leaving him to accept what ever penitence his temporary club can offer. When his temp contract is up and his loan is over, he'll revert back to the old contract
This. He had to agree the conditions and sign the loan agreement elsewhere, temporarily suspending his contract with us, in effect. Credit to him for taking a cut to play, let’s not Rodwell the lad.
As the report says they will shoulder all of his wages and he is taking a hit, my guess s that we’ve said “stay and remain a reserve and end your careers effectively” or go and take a hit. “ he had a relegation clause in his contract fir definite so he won’t have been on £50k Maybe money is t the be all and end all for him and football matters
I'll try to keep track of how well he is doing in the local newspaper. Just in case we end up getting him back...
