It's that time again where we all start guessing and predicting who will win the leagues next season. There's a few weeks of transfers to happen, but I'm to excited to wait for that. I'll go: Premiership - Man City Championship - Nottingham Forest League one - Sunderland League two - Mansfield FA Cup - Man Utd League Cup - Spurs Champions League - Juventus
Premiership - Man City Championship - West Brom League one - Charlton League two - Notts County FA Cup - Spurs League Cup - Man City Champions League - Man City
Premiership - Man City Championship - Middlesborough League one - Charlton League two - Lincoln FA Cup - Liverpool League Cup - Spurs Champions League - Real Madrid
Premiership - Man City Championship - Stoke League one - Sunderland League two - Lincoln FA Cup - Man City League Cup - Man United Champions League - Juventus
Premiership - Man City Championship - Boro League one - Sunderland League two - Lincoln FA Cup - Man Utd League Cup - Arsenal Champions League - Barca
I just thought they had a strong finish at the end of the season and got into play-offs but I'm not 100% on that. Also heard something about them being one of the early favourites. There's no other reason for picking them. Can't see us winning League this year though mate. Edit: Just checked with William Hill They've got us favourites to win league @ 11/4 Charlton 3rd @ 12/1
I was over talking to the Charlton supporters last month. They were complaining of having no players and no money. They are putting together a new squad just like us. I don't think we'll win the league, I just felt obliged to pick us. Peterborough, Coventry or Barnsley, for me.
I've just had a look at the odds. The bookies have got us well clear. Barnsley are well clear in 2nd and then everybody else just seems to be clumped together.
We've been a complete mess of a club for several years, suffered 2 consecutive relegations, have new and at this level, relatively inexperienced owners. A new manager, unwanted expensive players still on the books, big gaps still evident in the squad, and maybe a heavy reliance on youth this season. And we're still heavy favourites to win the league? Seriously, WTF???!!!!
Odd to think we are favourites, how can anyone make an accurate prediction at this stage, see where we are after 10 games, happy to be in the top half tbh.
Not that I'm an expert on how the bookmakers work, in fact I've never placed a bet in my life, but I'd imagine we're only favourites because we're the biggest club in the division and we've only just been relegated. If Donald and Methven get us promoted they'll have done extraordinarily well. They're making all the right noises and really seem to want to get it right but I'm sure they'll make mistakes along the way. No doubt they'll hold their hands up and admit to those mistakes but we've all got to let them make those mistakes and learn from them. If we don't get promoted first time around, they'll learn from that and that would be, in the long run, a good thing.
Are any of us realistically expecting immediate promotion? Its not the fact that we're favourites, its that we're big big favourites that amazes me! Edit: @The Norton Cat Screwed my reply back to you
I'm not that surprised that we're big favourites. Not because I think we'll definitely be promoted, just because we're the obvious choice for the bookies. In reality they don't have any more of a clue than we do. In fact, less probably. I reckon there are people out there who think we'll be promoted straight away. In fact I reckon there are people out there who will accept nothing less. Donald said on the last Roker Report podcast that people are asking why we aren't spending millions and millions, so clearly there are some that have unrealistic expectations.
The last paragraph sums up the problems that all club owners have. But to be asked why we're not spending millions just shows awful levels of stupidity. It's as if the last 2 relegations never actually happened!
