on the day the legend retires, i've a bit of a question. neville was listed in the CL squard for 2008, played in that season's CL (vs Roma) but didn't appear in the final squad. did he receive a winners' medal? my understanding is that everyone in the squad did (UEFA gave the club a set number to hand out as desired) - and he certainly did as he was club captain. however... the guardian today lists him as only having 1 EC win/medal for 1999: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/feb/02/gary-neville-retires-manchester-united "After making 602 appearances for Manchester United, winning eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one European Cup" wikipedia (protected from correction due to dipper attack) lists the same - only a single medal for '99 under his honours. so which is right????
Yeah it's strange. When I heard his list of honours and mentioned only the 1 champions league, i thought he must have missed out on the 99 one. so i checked, and he played in the final. maybe you have to play a certain number of times to qualify? i know they do that in the league
according to UEFA's rules: 4.03 Thirty gold medals are presented to the winning club, and 30 silver medals to the runner-up. Additional medals may not be produced. so no 'number of games' rule...
Doesn't look like he got one in 2008: http://www.uefa.com/news/newsid=941930.html They specifically mention that he only played 9 mins in 2008 and don't list the 2008 CL under his UEFA honours. So I assume he doesn't count. Guess some of our medals for 2008 went to the coaching staff? I don't think any club has ever given all their medal allocation to their players.
pique played 3 games according to wiki. scoring in 2. remember him scoring against umm i think it was roma?
Pique now plays for Barcelona Regards Mr Nice Poinitng out players who now play for far more successful clubs than they once did since 2011
You forgot Flamini. And Henry. And Lassana Diarra. And Jose Reyes and Ashley Cole. Other than that, good wind up... Ooops, almost forgot Eduardo. His current team won a trophy last year as wel.
what about alex hleb? brum city have championship runner-up medals - 2 more than arsenal have managed since 2005. (discounting the MASSIVE emirates cup...)
Only the 1 CL in 1999. But just listen to the rest: Premier league winner - 8 times FA Cup winner - 3 times League Cup winner- 2 times Intercontinental Cup - 1 time FIFA Club Word Cup - 1 time. 602 appearances for Man Utd & 85 caps for England playing in 2 WC's and 2 Euro Championships. Nuff said.
I just realised something. Gary Neville has won more trophies in his career than Man City have in their entire history. That makes me smile
