    they say it means nothing

but for a young england side it means a lot

it shows their resilience to come back from a gutting experience

3rd is better than 4th fact

    germany won 3rd in 2010
they then won the next world cup

people said in 2010 what a young great team germany had..
    do england have the same?
    then go out and win

    its a none game
    but its a game nonetheless

i just dont get the attitude it means nothing, of course subconsciously it's not the same and you can't have the same mentality as a semi final

but it's still a world cup game and you lost the semi final, it's a young team
    show you can win
england have only ever been in this game once.. and that was 28 years ago

so for england players it's a massive game, go out and show you mean business
its an extra game for gareth to assess players

the mentality of it means nothing is loser speech, losing two games in a row at a world cup is loser stuff
    go out and win
don't make it another 30 years til it happens again

Use this as an opportunity to gain brownie points with the missus.

She doesn't need to know it's a pointless game that means next to no **** to you.

But if you tell you're willing to miss the game to let her do something she wants, tonight will be your night.

    I'm playing HHH's card.

Wife's booked posh afternoon tea for 3.15. I've not complained. I've not grumbled. I've just accepted it with good natured grace.

Brownie points banked. I'm off to stuff myself senseless then watch the game on catch-up later.

I might even try the old 'don't anyone tell me the score' ploy, then when someone inevitably does I'll add it to the Ernie puts others before himself ledger.

It all adds up to be cashed in at a later date.

We win this and we stuff Belgium's golden generation and finish on a confidence boostng high. Belgium team not getting any younger, whereas we should coming into a prime condition for the next two competitions.

Dunno, I haven't had it yet. I'm going for sandwich, bit of pie, scone, jam an stuff, cake and a prosecco for her. Tea for me. How posh it is really depends on if doilies are involved or not. I'll report back later.

I was going to say that was a capital attempt at a match day thread, but then realised there are no capitals.

Whatever happens today we are World Cup semi finalists. Well done to the whole lot of them. Something to work on . Great youth teams coming through. Future looks positive. Lets take the Semi as the start.

Feel sorry for the players having to play in this, last thing you would want after losing a semi final is to have to hang around for it, I don't get why it even exists . I might watch it but don't think I can bring myself to watch the final , I usually do after we go out but with us getting so close , don't think I can .

    The winners get bronze medals.

A World Cup bronze medal is obviously a bit of a consolation prize, but it’s better than going home with nowt.

    I know a midget.

He says he's not a dwarf.

People need to keep things in proportion.
