Well one is originally from Leicester and the other Plymouth, but start of the new season I will give it a go! It worked for this World Cup so we will see if it's my influence or that of their new love of Kieran Trippier! Hey they might both end up supporting Spurs!
I agree with your sentiment Mr Cate. The team is young but also Mr Gareths. He is also new coach. After final I will be going back to my studies but also with prepare a trip to Loftus Road in September. I will make dollars from teach tennis at the weekend. Mr Cate will the R's get half in top table with Wally with Brolly?!! Ha! Ha! I make joke on McClaren
I'm hugely impressed with Southgate, but he simply can't continue to ignore our obvious problem in midfield. Playing one holding player and two attacking in front of him leaves wide open spaces. Croatia capitilised on it and that Belgium goal exposed it again. We won't win anything with that system.
That's because they have so much space to attack into. Kane, brilliantly set up by Sterling, misses another very good chance. Good game though.
Learning experience Col. I don’t think Henderson is fit enough to play alongside Dier today. What we need is for Kante to ask for a British passport. And for Wilshire to have an excellent, injury free few years, if we have two holding players we need someone genuinely creative as well. Belgium look better than us, and that’s because on an individual player basis they are better for the most part, Martinez has them playing for each other and they have had an extra day recovery. And today they are playing with real freedom and no pressure, they really are very good. But two years ago when we started qualification after losing to Iceland, with a fiasco around Allardyce, if you had told me that, with the squad we have in Russia and with Southgate as manager, we would finish above Italy, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, in fact every single country except France, Croatia and by the looks of it Belgium, I would have laughed in a grim, humourless way. It’s frustrating that we missed our chance to get to the final and we might not get another one, but playing this game today is still a massive overachievement in my view. And we have overachieved in a much more positive way than Portugal and Greece did when they had their moment in the sun.
England being swamped by this very good Belgiun side. The Belgiun attacking midfielders get in to defensive positions far more effectively than ours. Delph is struggling. I really think we may have to consider a change of formation.
And not enough movement from us up front. Cane looks static, we are missing Lingards movement, and a playmaker.as we have all through the tournament.
Playing two holding means a change of formation, probably to 3-4-3. I reckon that may be the way forward. Totally agree about what this squad have achieved and that they will improve with experience. I'd love to see a fit Wilshire or his like alongside Henderson.
May well be. Some really good internationals coming up with this Nations League thing, Southgate now needs to move to the next level, he has done the best he can in this tournament with these players, picking a shape to suit the personnel and some principles, especially defenders who like the ball, but he needs to add some tactical variation and improve game management. Great foundation though. Half time. In a slightly desperate way we are defending very well.
I may well be in a very small minority, but I've been far from impressed by the majority of the England performances this World Cup The media hyping up has been ridiculous - "heroes" - what for staggering through to the semi-finals and then being put out by a team that despite playing more minutes of football looked twice as energetic? Might sound harsh, but the last few weeks have just reinforced for me that my passion is for QPR and not England when it comes to football Half watching the 3rd placed play off and England look as though they just want to go home, We seem to have no energy and no options going forwards
Seems like you are in a majority, saw some polls earlier in the week saying that 63% of English fans would rather see their club win the PL than England win the World Cup. I’ll start a poll on here.
I didn't say that I hadn't I like Southgate a lot - honest, straightforward - and I applaud his approach to bringing in a new generation of players. It has certainly improved our overall quality but not to the extent that the ridiculous hype would have the casual (ie not regular match goer) follower of the sport believe
Fair comment, the hype has got a bit much. For me it’s just been a treat actually enjoying watching England again, and appreciating the way they have carried themselves in general.
If we should score and it’s 1-1 at 90 minutes do they put them through the torture of extra time and penalties? That would be pure sadism.
