    He sorta was.. We wouldn't have signed him if Carroll had of stayed, therefore replacement (albeit only a temporary one).

    False alarm. I really hope we are still in for a left-back. I'm not a fan of right footed left backs, and I have read somewhere that Santon has struggled at times in that position.

    We signed him because we had a lot of injuries too, remember Shola's facial injury vs Fulham?
    It's not like we signed Kuqi to become the new no9, he wasn't replacing Carroll. If anything he was replacing the role of 4th/3rd striker..

    Kuqi was Shola's replacement, as we thought he'd miss the rest of the season and we were low on numbers.

    Don't think he would be a replacement but I do expect a few more signings

    2 strikers though and maybe Pieters/Cissokho if I'm being greedy

    Pardew seemed to suggest that Santon has been signed as a left back and I definitely wouldn't expect to see a left sided defender come in as well. I'd prefer a centre half anyway.

    Looks amazing but if Lyon want 9 million for him, then that would be 14 mill on 2 full-backs. Can't see Ashley spending that much, would be nice to be surprised though!
