At least Merkel and her party won´t touch them with a barge pole, unlike our Theresa May who is saddled with the DUP (the UK´s equivalent to AfD)
No. It's a narrative history which is faithful to events, as opposed to either an historical text book or a novel; history told as a story, in other words.
Or you could flip it and say "googling all the cabinet, non of them went to Eton!" which is also true.
Like Dennis Skinner's "half the Tories I know are bastards" Order! Order! sorry Mr. Speaker "half the Tories I know aren't bastards!"
Right wing, populist Brexiters who favor Trump just don't make sense to me. If you are all Britain First! why would you support someone's whose stance is "America First?" Exiting the EU so you can attempt to make a solo deal with the US with much less leverage isn't putting UK first. This is exactly what Trump is hoping for. To split up other countries so he can deal with them one-on-one where the US can overwhelm them with our military and economic clout. The one way to beat a bully is for everyone else to gang up against them. I get the fact that people want a better deal out of the EU. Why not? Everyone does. But the idea that the UK is actually better off without the shackles of EU and will someday rule the world with her mighty navy is a pipe dream. The US can stomp you flat in a half dozen ways. I mean, it's not smart for us to do that but that's why it's so crazy to support the one guy who is stupid enough to want to to do that to you. Is Trump kind of a boob? Undoubtedly. But even if you score a massive victory in some trade negotiation, it's not going to help. Trump's word is worthless and beating the US still in the long run a loss. If the US implodes through bad deal-making and leadership we will still take down a lot of the world with us. Sorry about that. I didn't vote for the guy. But since we are now stuck with a guy who doesn't care at all about the big picture, then hopefully you guys have some better sense. No one really wins a war, whether it's a trade war, a culture war, or a real military war.
Also how they are supportive of Trump putting 'America First' but abusive every time the EU puts the EU first in the Brexit deal.
You are trying to apply logic to two phenomena - Trump and Brexit - which are entirely emotive and irrational. As for war, the fact that no one wins one has never stopped them from happening. Neither has the fact that smashing up your own house will only leave you homeless, prevented countless angry people from doing exactly that.
War is an evolutionairy response to overpopulation designed to cull the species when we grow to the point the local resources can't sustain us and keep balance. It had a purpose when we were tribal and the worst weapon we had were pointy sticks. Not so much with nuclear weapons. But rather than work together and create other methods to solve our problems we still seem intent on looking for enemies to fight. Hard to fight millions of years of evolution I guess.
Were you spitting and frothing at the mouth when writing that? What do you mean "If YOU are all Britain first?" Are you trying to imply that I am? Or that all leavers are? Britain first are a tiny group, absolutely tiny of maniacs. Much much smaller than those who are like them that voted Trump. And by that I mean the small (percentagewise) group that voted for Trump to "get rid of all the foreigners etc." And you are just repeating baloney you hear in this statement: "and will someday rule the world with her mighty navy is a pipe dream." Do you really believe that Brits (leave or remain) ever think we might "rule the world with our mighty navy." You are sounding like a usual lefty that says stuff to appeal to other lefties. Pretentious is too soft a word for that statement. Who said I supported Trump? The guys an idiot. He is however the POTUS and we have to deal with him. All these same people (I edited out what I originally called them) on the street are going around on the Brexit debate stating "nobody voted to be poorer" yet they think nothing of pissing off the POTUS. They think nothing of banging on about selling stuff to Saudi. They bang on about inviting China. But they keep repeating "nobody voted to be poorer." The guy who did the orange baby Trump balloon said "anybody who doesn't find it funny must be a fascist." I think it is childish to be honest. I'm no fascist though. Just a grown up. I think "Wenger out" messages pulled along behind aeroplanes is childish and many other things. You are banging on this drum of identity politics of "Leave voter = right wing = Trump fan = fascist" You really do need to understand that people are not guilty by association and that ALL voters vote for people, parties or policies that they don't wholeheartedly agree with. It is a trade off and while you pompous lot keep on trying to slip lines in about Empire, Navy and ruling the world you show you have no clue whatsoever about the subject and prefer to ridicule to blag your way through an argument.
No problem with the EU putting the EU first in the trade deal. I expect them to. The problem is Remain/Government/May putting the EU first. Not a good starting point for negotiation. We should have started at "UK first" just as they should have started at "EU first" and then come to somewhere in the middle. Our government bolstered by an unrepresentative parliament is starting already past where we should have met......
I said right wing brexit Trump supporters don't make sense. At no point did I say that every Brexiter was right wing, or that every right wing conservative supports Trump. Nor did I mention anything about you. You, on the other hand were pretty quick to assume that my post was about you and it must be because I'm a leftist and therefore I must be foaming at the mouth, etc. So, yeah who is playing identity politics here?
